Mother's Day: A Plea for Peace

This Sunday in worship we will celebrate all mother-figures among us and rejoice in the values and love they have demonstrated and taught. Looking at Romans 12, we'll consider the marks of a true Jesus-follower, upholding love as our highest virtue while remaining fully aware of the evil that confronts us and leads to harm in the world. May we all be strengthened and encouraged to overcome evil with good, so far as it depends on us.

We will recognize and thank all mothers and mother-figures among us this Sunday! Come expecting to be honored and commended for your compassion and serving as a faithful example to our children.

Special Sunday School Hour Presentation this week in the Sanctuary at 9:00 AM with Dave Witkovsky . See below for more information. Please join us as we gather to learn and to worship together in word, song, prayer, and fellowship.

Live Stream Worship

Our worship services are available via YouTube for those who wish to join that way. Click the link above to join us at 10:30 AM Sunday or anytime afterward. DVD copies of the services are also available.

Combined Adult and Youth Session

9:00 AM in the Sanctuary - Presenter Dave Witkovsky, everyone is invited!

As a congregation with a commitment to "passing our faith to the next generation", we have already engaged with families in a variety of ways. This discussion will continue to educate and prepare us to support and strengthen the young people entrusted to our care in new ways. We will look at some of the factors that help young people grow and be more resilient, specifically the developmental assets that are needed. We will also talk about how we can all become mentors to our children and youth as well as how we might begin a specific mentoring program which would pair our youth with an adult to support them in their personal and faith development during the teenage years. Mentoring is something we can all do simply by continuing our own spiritual growth, becoming aware of the needs of the children and youth in our church and community, and being ready to respond when called.

Children's Sunday School Classes

9:00 AM in Rooms 151, 152, and 155. Children grades PreK (age 4) and up will have class lessons, with singing included as well. Children ages 3-4 and younger are welcome to attend nursery care.

Lehman Center "Wish List"

Items for donation to the Lehman Center are being collected in the basket in the Gathering Area.

Due to changes in the food pantry operations, these must be collected separately from

food pantry supplies.

Here are some items that are needed at Lehman Center:

Instant pudding (chocolate, banana)

Instant jello (orange, blue, green, grape, cherry)

Can fruit (pears, pineapples, fruit cocktail)

Applesauce (individual or jar)

Can vegetables (lima beans, peas, green beans)

Baby food - all stages

Baby snacks

Since 2011 our Witness Team has sponsored the Cash for Causes program by selling Giant & Weis gift cards. The church receives 5% of sales to support various ministries. For 2023 the gift card sales will support The Lehman Center (Children’s Aid Society), New Community Project, and Carlisle Truck Stop Ministry. You may purchase the cards in amounts of $100, $50, $25, or $10. The cards make great gifts, especially at holidays. Consider donating cards to the Food Pantry or using them yourself any time you shop at Giant or Weis.

If you’d like to support this program, please see Becky Wenger before/after worship service OR mail your check (paid to York First Church) to 3011 Bedford Pl, York, PA 17408 and your cards will be mailed to you.
