REMEMBER to SIGN YOUR CHILDREN UP for VBS!!!

VBS donations this year will go to our church Food Bank. We are hoping to raise $5,000.00 and are looking for matching grants from companies or individuals.

Please let Sheryl Leaman know if you are interested in providing a grant.

We need your help to offset the cost of VBS. Please look for the shoe box in the gathering space and take a paper shoe with an item we need donations for.

All donations can be given by check in the offering plate with a memo VBS or online through the church website.

SAT., JUNE 22 - VBS Volunteer Orientation and Decorating Party

VBS volunteer orientation (for everyone helping with VBS ) and a decorating party will be on Saturday June 22 starting at 9:00am. Hopefully with lots of help the decorating will not take too long. Name tags will be made then as well as group assignments.

Mark your calendars now!

VBS – SEEKERS IN SNEAKERS DISCOVER JESUS

Have you ever wanted your name to appear in lights on Broadway? Did you ever consider taking a stab at professional acting? Would you love to wear elaborate costumes like they do in Bridgerton? Well, if those are some of your dreams, our theater company is not for you! But… if you ever wanted to engage in a little bit of drama to help others learn more about the ways of Jesus and if you would like to have fun sharing the Good News with others, Vacation Bible School (VBS) is the place to be!

We are looking for some eager, energetic, enthusiastic “characters” of all ages (starting around 8 years old and going to at least 88) who would be willing to give a little of their precious time the week before and during Bible School to present the daily lesson in drama. No memorization of lines required. No hours of rehearsal and painful choreography. Just a few minutes of your time to help our children learn how to be “Seekers in Sneakers”! The skits are already written and we can take our own twist on them. Won’t you please consider joining us for this meaningful summer children’s ministry? If you are willing, please contact Kim Witkovsky or Diane Gibble and we will be glad to have you join us! The more, the merrier! We will spend a short time together the week of June 16 reading through and practicing our roles and then we will share our skits each night of VBS – June 23-27 – during the opening worship time between 6 and 6:30 p.m. Then you are free to leave unless you want to volunteer in other ways during the rest of the evening. Even if you can only join us one night, we don’t want to miss your talent and desire to serve. Looking forward to hearing from you very soon! Thanks so much!

MESSAGE FROM SANDI BOWSER ABOUT OUR DAILY BREAD/SOUP KITCHEN

Dear Church Members,

We are in need of Volunteers, who are willing to prepare baked spaghetti casseroles for the soup kitchen in York city.

Presently, we have some very generous people who prepare 1, 2, or 3 casseroles once a month. I, for example, prepare 2 casseroles each month. You know if I can do it, it’s not that difficult.

The recipe is easy, and the foil baking pans are provided for you, the schedule is not difficult. Contact Sandra Bowser for more details, and scheduling (contact information below).

It is a very rewarding experience. I have to say that 95% of the people are very appreciative. It would be greatly appreciated if you could volunteer your time. Thank you.

Contact information: Sandra Bowser 717-825-7203

SPECIAL NOTE FOR PLACEMENT OF CASSEROLES:

Thank you to those of you who haven’t placed items on the top shelf of the kitchen freezer. Keeping that open and half of the second enables our spaghetti casserole “chefs” to have room to place their finished casseroles quickly.

We have learned that many items which people place in the freezer are never being removed. We have started removing such items and placing them in the garbage can.

Last week I found a full gallon of ice cream so I hesitated to throw it away.

Therefore we are asking that any committee, organization, group, church member, etc. placing items in the freezer place a label with date of the event, person responsible, and phone number. Hopefully doing this will enable us to handle the item in question wisely. Please be aware that the CDC is seldom using this freezer. When they do, it is only one shelf for a single week.

Thank you for listening to this request. Respectfully, Sandi Bowser

Gathering Area June Quilt

by Sid Innerst

Sid is a very talented quilter and we wanted to

thank her for sharing her beautiful work. As you are walking through the gathering area, please take a moment to enjoy the beauty and details of these quilts.

To our church family:

We would like to thank everyone for the many prayers, cards, texts, calls, and words of care and encouragement. Searching for answers to Jeff's health problems has been very difficult but made much easier by the love and care given to both of us. We have finally gotten some answers that will involve surgery in the future.

With great thanksgiving, Jeff and Melanie Miller

Since 2011 our Witness Team has sponsored the Cash for Causes program by selling Giant & Weis gift cards. The church receives 5% of sales to support various ministries. For 2024 the gift card sales will support The Lehman Center (Children’s Aid Society), New Community Project, and Carlisle Truck Stop Ministry. You may purchase the cards in amounts of $100, $50, $25, or $10. The cards make great gifts, especially at holidays. Consider donating cards to the Food Pantry or using them yourself any time you shop at Giant or Weis.

If you’d like to support this program, please see Becky Wenger before/after worship service OR mail your check (paid to York First Church of the Brethren) to 3011 Bedford Pl, York, PA 17408 and your cards will be mailed to you.
