Spring Greetings;

I hope this edition of DeTales finds you and your family doing well. It is hard to imagine that we are more than a week into the “official” start of Spring. As the old saying goes “If you do not like the weather in Ohio, wait a day as it will certainly change.” And while the temperatures have certainly fluctuated in recent days, the lengthening of daylight has provided a nice sense of energy to our school as we rapidly approach our final academic term. The Saint Francis DeSales High School students and staff have been very busy with their academic obligations.  More importantly, as a faith community we have been actively participating in our Lenten journey. In this season of Lent we have been provided with opportunities to pray, fast, and to give alms as we anticipate the celebration of Easter which marks the resurrection of Jesus.

As people of faith we realize that it is through the gift of Christ’s resurrection that we are given the opportunity to celebrate the awesome gift of life. It seems to me that when you combine the joy associated with Easter and the beauty and rebirth associated with Spring we are blessed with an affirmation of Christ’s abundant love.

I think it important to note as the leader of this school I find the Lenten season to be an excellent time to affirm the Gospel messages that are fundamental to our faith. I am most pleased that our teachers do an outstanding job of seizing the teachable moments associated with this holy season.

I am prayerful that as we move forward in this Holy Week that each of you will be graced with the peace and serenity to reflect on Christ’s example of unconditional love. Christ’s death and resurrection provides each of us with the gift of eternal life. During this solemn time of retreat and reflection please take the occasion to give thanks to God for his gifts of life and love.

In closing, find comfort in knowing that our community’s prayers are with you and your family.  I humbly request that you take time to pray for those community intentions that will be placed on our Lenten prayer cross; in addition, please keep in your prayers our families who may be traveling to be with loved one’s for Easter. May the peace and love of our Savior continue to accompany you and your families during this powerful time of the year.

Peace and God’s Blessings,

Dan Garrick ‘79

2 Horse Apparel!

The Semester Two Entrepreneurship class has a new online ‘Stallion Store’ with new items!

These store items are all ideas from the students within our class. One of our products coming to the store that we would like to highlight is a t-shirt with a customizable last/first name on the back and sport/activity on the front! This would be perfect for any parents but, especially the parents of spring athletes!

The store opens on March 26th and will close on April 11th. These could be perfect graduation gifts, birthday gifts, or just an end of the year memento! Items can be picked up at school by students, or delivered to your home. The items will be delivered in mid-May.

Portions of the proceeds will go to charities such as the Brian Muha foundation, canned food drive and a scholarship fund for aspiring student entrepreneurs!

Nurse's Notes

We have seen an increase in illness over the past few weeks, including Influenza A. Please keep your student/s home if they have a fever of 100.4F or higher or are visibly ill with a continuous cough or other severe symptoms to prevent spread of illness. Here is an Influenza Fact Sheet you can review at your convenience.

2023-2024 Sick Policy

Sick children often expose other students and school staff members to illnesses and germs. These illnesses are disruptive to the educational process and to other children and their families. Students who are ill should be kept home to help control the spread of germs. Please follow the guidelines linked here to help keep our school safe and healthy.

Spiritual Reflection

Father, we are grateful that you have chosen to have an intimate relationship with each of us, one that is nurtured by the words of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit. You seek us out and ask us to be your presence in the world. You also give us the key to your heart, the words to be spoken in our time of prayer. For this we thank you and praise you. Amen.
