BoSL Nominating Team Report | |
The Nominating Team (Richard Brown, Craig Mosford, Amy Poe, Jennifer Thomas, Jon Straw (Chair), and Pastor Michael (ex officio) is pleased to report the nomination of two persons for the Board of Servant Leaders: David Leege and Mark Rumohr. The Congregation will vote on these two nominees at the Voters Meeting on June 9. More information about the nominees will be published in the next two issues of the Communicator. |
David Leege and his family have been members of PoP for over a decade. During that time, he has served in many different roles, including: as lay liturgist, primarily at the 8:00 a.m. service; working with the worship ministry team; working closely with PoP's Outreach efforts; and playing trumpet in the PoP Orchestra. He is a lifelong member of churches of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, and in previous churches, he has served in additional roles, including: leading adult bible studies; teaching Sunday school and vacation bible school; singing in choir; and serving on various church boards including the Board of Servant Leaders at a previous congregation. David has actively been involved with Lutheran Hour Ministries and is currently serving as the Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees for The Lutheran Hour Ministries Foundation. He lives in Alexandria with his wife Deb and their son Noah.

Mark Rumohr and his wife Nina have been members of PoP since 2005, upon their return from the Netherlands. During that time, he has served in many different roles, including: as usher for the Saturday evening service, volunteering with the hypothermia shelter, and significantly with the ESL program as an instructor for over a decade and principal coordinator for the past three years. After a break during 2020, Mark and his all-volunteer team restarted a daytime ESL program in the Fall of 2021, with six teachers for 52 registered adult students from 22 different countries of origin. They have sustained that level continuously since then. Mark has also served on the Board of Directors for Northern Virginia’s ESL & Immigrant Ministries since 2022. Mark and Nina have four children and three grandchildren.

On June 9th, at both the 8am and 10:30am services, we will be honoring those who are graduating from high school, college, graduate school, trade school, apprenticeship programs, and the like. We will be offering a blessing and a small gift to all those registered. Please submit this form by Wednesday, June 5th to register a graduate. | |

Fill A Back Pack Event
Donors and volunteers are needed to help meet ECHO’s goal of filling 1300 backpacks with grade-specific school supplies by the time the next school year begins. This is a great opportunity for teens and adults who are looking for a short-term volunteer commitment that will make a real difference for our community. Volunteers may sign up for one or more of the work sessions that will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons in July and August at ECHO, 7205 Old Keene Mill Road. Donations of school supplies are eagerly welcomed! Please see the list of needed items on our website under the “Donate Goods/ School Supplies” tab.

All students in Grades 1-6 are invited to join us for an evening of fellowship, games, and fun! On Saturday, June 15th, from 6:45pm to 8:15pm. Club 123 (for Grades 1-3) will meet in Room 9 and Club 456 (for Grades 4-6) will meet in the Youth Room. Both groups will have pizza and many fun games and activities. Please register your child by June 12th if they plan to attend!

Concerts at St. Bernadette presents the Capital Wind Symphony, Friday, June 7 at 7:30pm in a free performance of great symphonic band music. One of the premiere musical organizations of our region, and under the direction of newly appointed Musical and Artistic Director, Dr. William L. Lake, Jr., the CWS presents a compelling spring program in collaboration with Saint Bernadette’s Director of Music Ministries, David Mathers, performing on the church’s 26-Rank pipe organ.
