The 2019 Mid-Maryland Mission of Mercy and Health Equity Festival was held today and will continue tomorrow, September 14 from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the UMD Xfinity Center.

This free adult dental care clinic and health equity festival provides free dental services like cleanings, endontics/root canals, restorative fillings and extractions as well as a number of health screenings and services. All dental and health services are completely free and no insurance information will be collected
The event is organized in part by the University of Maryland School of Public Health's Center for Health Equity. The City is a sponsor of the event.

Purple Line Construction Updates
Beginning on or about September 1, 2019, the College Park Metro Bus Loop will be closed long-term for Purple Line construction. The bus stops within the bus loop will be relocated to temporary bus shelters along River Road. Please note that buses will queue up at the temporary bus stops from 5 a.m. from 11 p.m.

City Hall is Moving!
With construction of the new City Hall scheduled to begin next year, the current City Hall at 4500 Knox Road is closing.

All Mayor and Council meetings are now held at Davis Hall (9217 51st Avenue).

On Monday, October 7, the Department of Planning, Community & Economic Development and the Parking Enforcement Division of the Department of Public Services will relocate to 8400 Baltimore Avenue Suite 340 (in the same suite as the Department of Public Services). However, parking permit applications and parking ticket payments can be made at the current City Hall until Friday, October 11 at 12:00 p.m.

On Monday, October 14, Administration, Finance and Human Resources will relocate to 8400 Baltimore Avenue Suite 375. The building at 4500 Knox Road will be permanently closed to the public. 

Effective October 14, 2019, the new mailing address for City Hall will be 8400 Baltimore Avenue Suite 375, College Park, MD 20740. City phone numbers and office hours (Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) will remain the same.
A WEEK IN REVIEW
Office of the City Manager
Mayor Wojahn, City Manager Somers, and Finance Director Fields along with the City’s financial advisory, attended two meetings with two credit rating agencies, Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s (S&P) this week in New York. The City, with the help of its financial advisory, presented financial and economic information and statistics in order to obtain a favorable credit rating which will allow the City to sell bonds for the City Hall and Duvall Field projects at a favorable interest rate.

Mayor Wojahn, Councilmembers Kabir and Day and City Manager Somers met with Dr. Loh as part of the City's quarterly meetings with the UMD president to review and discuss ongoing collaborative efforts.

City Manager Somers and Public Works Director Marsili toured the recently renovated interior of the Old Parish House. The inside has new paint, new window treatments and soon will have new furniture.
Department of Public Works
The Department met with Pepco for an electrical service at Amherst and Rhode Island for power for a community tree lighting. Design is being started.

Crews power washed the Downtown Parking Garage stairwell along with sidewalks.

Weekly Highlights of Contract Police Activity
August 30 - September 5, 2019
8/29 Contract officer responded to the 7400 block of Dickinson Avenue regarding a noise complaint. The officer heard loud music coming from the backyard with 100 to 120 persons attending. The party was “shut down” and a student referral was submitted.

8/30 Contract officer responded to the 7400 block of Columbia Avenue regarding a noise complaint. Officer observed 60 to 70 persons “partying”. A student referral was submitted.

8/30 Contract officer stopped a student for possession on an open alcoholic beverage at Calvert Road and Columbia Avenue. Student referral was submitted.

8/30 Contract officer noticed a loud party in the 7500 block of Girard Avenue. The party was “shut down” and a student referral was submitted. The party had about 50 persons in attendance.

8/31 Contract officer stopped a student for possession on an open alcoholic beverage at Calvert Road and Rhode Island Avenue. Student referral was submitted.

8/31 Contract officer stopped 2 students for possession on an open alcoholic beverage at College Avenue and Rhode Island Avenue after they threw empty cans in the yard in the 4600 block of Rhode Island Avenue. Student referral was submitted for open alcoholic beverages and “fake” identification.

9/1 Contract officer responded to a call for service for a domestic in the 4700 block of Lackawanna Street. One person was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct and transported to District I for processing.

9/1 Contract officers assisted with the fatal motorcycle accident at Baltimore Avenue at Fox Street.

9/3 Contract officer conducted a traffic assignment (Stop Sign Enforcement) at Saint Andrews Place and Duke Street.  3 citations and 5 warnings were issued.

9/4 Contract officer conducted a traffic assignment (Speed Enforcement) in the 9000 block of Baltimore Avenue. 13 citations were issued as the officer was operating the portable “Mobile Camera.”

9/5 Contract officer conducted a traffic assignment (Speed Enforcement) in the 9000 block of Baltimore Avenue. 86 citations were issued as the officer was operating the portable “Mobile Camera.”

9/5 Contract Officers assist CEO with illegal burning in the 7400 block of Wellesley Drive.

9/5 Contract officer observed several persons loitering at the car wash located in the 8600 block of Baltimore Avenue. Subjects were sent on their way.

8/23 Late submission: Contract officer issued a student referral for illegal crossing of roadway, possession of fake identification card and disorderly conduct at Yale Avenue and Knox Road. 2 criminal citations were issued.
