City Summer UMD Youth Camp Scholarships
For Rising K-12 City Students
Summer is almost here!

CLICK HERE  for a City of College Park Scholarship Application to a University of Maryland Summer 2019 Youth Camp. 

The application deadline is March 11, 2019 by 5:00 p.m.

This application also has a non-comprehensive list of available summer camps at the University of Maryland, along with instructions as to how to find more camp offerings. 

This is not an application for a summer camp, only an application for the scholarship.

Bike to Work Day is Back!

Bus Stop Relocations at College Park Metro
From Maryland Purple Line:

Effective March 18, 2019, the College Park Metro Bus Loop access will be closed long-term for Purple Line construction. The existing 5 bus stops within the bus loop will be relocated to the southbound right-hand lane of River Road. Additional bus stops may be added at a later date; at that time a revised notice will be provided. See illustration below for long-term bus stop locations. 

Please note that the right-hand southbound lane along River Road will have buses queue up at the temporary bus stops between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m.

As work continues, we will strive to keep you informed of the progress of this exciting project. CITY DEPARTMENTS
Department of Planning, Community and Economic Development
Construction on the long-awaited Hollywood Gateway Park project is slated to begin on or around March 4 when the contractor, McDonnell Landscaping, will begin mobilization and staging for the project. The area on 47th Place along the site’s frontage will be cordoned off and no parking will be allowed here during the construction phase. Construction is slated to be completed by September 1.
Department of Public Works
DPW completed the HVAC Contract CP-19-01 at Youth & Family Services Building.

Crews worked the 7th snow event for 2018-2019 on Friday, 3/1/19. We received about an inch of snow.

Maintenance staff inspected the Parking Garage for preventive maintenance work to take place during spring break.

Spring is a great time to plant trees. If you would like a tree planted in the right-of way in front of your home please contact Brenda Alexander to discuss options, 240-487-3595 or balexander@collegeparkmd.gov .

Are you thinking of adding a tree to your property this Spring? The City has a program to reimburse the cost (up to $150.00) of approved trees on private property, it’s called the Tree Canopy Enhancement Program (TCEP). Click here for more information and application.

This City is starting a new food scrap drop off pilot program at Public Works accessible 24/7. Check back soon form more information. 

Save the Date: Spring Cleanup Events
April is spring cleanup month. The Department of Public Works, 9217 51st Avenue, will be open each Saturday from 7:30 a.m. – noon for City residents to drop-off bulky trash, electronics for recycling, brush, and yard trim. You must be a resident of the City of College Park and bring proof of City residency in order to participate.

Document shredding. Onsite document shredding services will be available on Saturday, April 20, during the Cleanup event from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Bring your paperwork to be shredded while you wait. Residency is required.

Weekly Highlights of Contract Police Activity
February 15 - 21, 2019
From the Prince George's County Police Department: When you are out and about, please remember to remove valuables from an unattended vehicle.
2/15 Contract officer initiated a field stop on a disorderly suspect in the 4400 block of Knox Road. The suspect was arrested and charged with disorderly, trespass, 2nd degree assault and possession of “fake identification”.
2/17 Contract officer assisted the UMPD with conducting a breath test on a DUI driver.
2/19 Contract officer conducted a traffic assignment (Speed Enforcement) in the 4800 block of Greenbelt Road. (27 citations were issued as the officer was operating the portable “Mobile Camera.”

2/19 Contract officer responded to a complaint of a large disorderly crowd at the Seven Eleven Store located at 4404 Knox Road. The crowd was sent on their way.
2/20 Contract officer on routine patrol observed a male walking along Princeton Avenue at College Avenue with an open alcoholic beverage (beer). The student was referred to the University. 
2/21 Contract officer assisted the Code Enforcement Officer with an inspection in the 5200 block of Laguna Road. No police action needed.

Public Forum: Charter Review Commission

The City of College Park has established a Charter Review Commission (CRC) to hear from our residents on the benefits and concerns associated with changing the length of the term for elected officials from two to four years, and on the benefits and concerns related to staggering those terms or having them run concurrently.

The Commission’s second Public Forum will be held on Monday, March 11, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. at Davis Hall, 9217 51st Avenue.
