Free Basic CERT Course

Today, January 25, 2019 The City celebrated the 31st Annual Spencer Harris and Safe Driver Awards Breakfast at the American Legion.

The Department presented the following awards:

The Department of Public Works would like to remind all residents that they need to schedule an appointment for all special trash prior to placing at the curb for collection (bulk trash, electronics recycling, brush, white goods). The City has a program to reimburse the cost (up to $150.00) of approved trees on private property, it’s called the Tree Canopy Enhancement Program (TCEP). Click here for more information and application.

Weekly Highlights of Contract Police Activity
January 11 - 17, 2018
1/13 Contract officers responded to a call for service for a report of a Breaking and Entering in progress at the Fishnet restaurant located at 5028 Berwyn Road. Officers assisted with the perimeter as the suspect(s) were GOA.

1/13 Contract officers responded to a call for service for a report of a Breaking and Entering Report in the 5000 block of Berwyn Road. Incident handled by the beat officer.

1/16 Contract officer conducted a traffic assignment (Speed Enforcement) in the 9000 block of Baltimore Avenue. (73 citations were issued as the officer was operating the portable “Mobile Camera.”)

1/17 Contract officers responded to a call for service for a report of a Breaking and Entering in progress in the 3500 block of Duke Street. Contract arrived on the scene first and discovered no crime was committed. Homeowner was an elderly female. 

1/17 Contract officers responded to a call for service for a shoplifter at the Home Depot home improvement store located at 4700 Cherry Hill Road. The suspect was apprehended after a foot chase. Officer reported “Use of Force” as the incident was reviewed by a supervisor per departmental guidelines.
Due to the ongoing complaint regarding fire lane violations at 4300 Hartwick Road we conducted several checks and issued 6 parking violations this week.

Public Forum: Charter Review Commission

The City of College Park has established a Charter Review Commission (CRC) to hear from our residents on the benefits and concerns associated with changing the length of the term for elected officials from two to four years, and on the benefits and concerns related to staggering those terms or having them run concurrently.

The Commission’s first Public Forum will be held on Monday, February 11, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 4500 Knox Road.
