A Word from Bishop Logue and Canon Lasch If you have any questions or concerns about your last clergy transition or the transition period at Christ Church, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are available to meet with you in Valdosta or in Savannah for conversation around your concerns. You can reach out to us through the diocesan office by phone (912-236-4279) or by email. (llasch@gaepiscopal.org; bishop@gaepiscopal.org) and we will respond as quickly as we can.
Dear Christ Church Family,

I apologize for the delay in getting this month's numbers to you; the fault is entirely mine.
Attached you will find the totals for August. As soon as September is reconciled, I will get those numbers and the numbers for the 3rd quarter to you.

In addition, I wanted to let you know that the Vestry has approved a change of banking institutions to Citizens Community Bank. Amy will take care of the transfer, which is no small feat, so please be sure to let her know how much you appreciate her hard work if/when you see her!

As always, Amy and I are available to answer any questions or concerns you may have.

Stefani Carroll,
Treasurer

Oktoberfest this year is Thursday, October 20th, with the biergarten opening at 6:00 p.m. and dinner served around 6:30.

On the menu: Usinger’s bratwurst from Milwaukee, potato salad and tossed salad, sauerkraut and other pickled things, rye bread, and beer and wine. Cost will be $15 per person.

Please note that this is an adult gathering for those 21 and older (please have proof of age with you). Childcare will be available in the Gabard Building.

Since Jane needs to know how many bratwurst to order, please sign up before October 6th. There will be a sign-up sheet in the parish hall, or you can email the church office.

If you’d like to contribute by bringing potato salad (German or “regular”) or sauerkraut, there’ll also be a sign-up sheet for that in the parish hall. Danke schön!
Dave Clark - Build for a Cure
Habitat for Humanity

The vestry of Christ Church has committed Christ Church to sponsor a Habitat for Humanity House build this fall. The Dave Clark "Build for the Cure" will be in memory of Dave Clark and his son Michael, who died of cystic fibrosis.

Fr. David and the vestry encourage you to support the build with your labor and with your financial gifts. Those gifts should be in addition to your regular giving to God in support of Christ Church's ministries. You can designate your check for Habitat on the memo line, or visit our website page Dave Clark Build for the Cure to donate.

The date for the building of the walls has been set for Saturday, October 15th at 9:00 a.m. Will be held at 2010 Cypress Street (Parking lot of Habitat for Humanity).

The dates for the actual build on site will begin Tuesday, October 18th at 8:00 a.m. and will continue Monday - Saturday till November 5th.
Hello! My name is Chris Rutland, and I’ve attended Christ Church since the summer of 2021. In that time I’ve enjoyed plugging in to the life of this parish and you’ve all made me very welcome. Although I’ve lived in Texas, Memphis, and suburban NYC, I grew up on a farm just up the road in Lenox and I’m happy to be back near my family. I’ve always enjoyed investing in young folks, most recently at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Rye, New York. I look forward to serving the youth of Christ Church and their families as co-director of youth ministries.
Interim Youth Ministers Called

Fr. David has added two people to the staff as interim co-youth ministers. Joel Williams and Chris Rutland have already begun planning for a meeting with parents and youth and the launch of our fall youth ministry. We were delayed in making this announcement until the background checks were completed.

Attention EYC youth and parents!

Mark your calendars for the Episcopal Youth Community (EYC) 22/23 kickoff meeting (and pizza party) on Sunday, October 16th at 6 pm in the youth room in the Gabard Building. Besides pizza and fellowship, we’ll also have the chance to talk about our ideas for EYC and get input from youth and parents in a casual gathering. Let us know you’re coming by Wednesday October 12th by emailing the church office. See y’all there!
My name is Joel Williams, I have been a member of Christ Episcopal Church for 20 years.  I'm a native of Valdosta and a graduate of GSU (Sociology; business) and VSU (MPA). I am employed with South GA Medical Center as a social worker in the case management dept.
Three of the most important things to me are family, faith and fitness. I live a healthy lifestyle and benefit from the time invested in all these aspects. I love to travel. I have been to many fun and exciting places coast to coast and in Canada. I look forward to working with the Youth of Christ Church.
Children’s Church will be held on October 2nd. Children age 3 – 5th grade are welcome to meet Keri Wilkin in the Children’s Classroom in Gabard. (This is the first classroom on the left in the preschool hallway.)
Live-stream Services
Sunday, October 2, 2022

Live-Streaming this week of the 10:00 service on October 2, 2022 will begin at 9:55 a.m. If for any reason we experience Technical difficulties with the Live-streaming, a recording of the service will be uploaded and a link sent to the congregation at a later time.

In the event you missed it, here is a video of the September 25, 2022 - Holy Eucharist Service.

Link to the 10:00 bulletin for the October 2, 2022 service.
The Livestream crew is pleased to announce that the new power lines and data lines for the future improvement of the Livestreaming have begun. We would like to caution anyone who enters the sanctuary and normally turns left to go behind the last pew, that this area is currently closed. (See picture above). This area will eventually become the Livestream booth, and the pew in front of it will be moved to another location in the sanctuary so a pathway will return eventually. For the safety of everyone with the wires on the floor, we have blocked this area. We are sorry for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience while the building process is underway.
Annual Blessing of the Animals

Annual Blessing of the Animals will be held on Sunday, October 9th beginning at 2:00 p.m. St Francis' Feast Day will be Tuesday, October 4th. We celebrate his unique relationship to nature and to animals by having a blessing of animals around that time each year. This year, we will celebrate St. Francis by blessing animals on Sunday, October 9th. We will regather at 2 pm, which will give you the opportunity to go home and gather your pets. If you bring a cat or a reptile, we would suggest caging them. Dogs and cats tend to create friction when closely aligned.
**We are taking October 2nd off so participants of Stitchers can attend the Stewardship Dinner.
Stitchers of Love
The Stitchers of Love are now meeting twice a month on the first and third Sundays in the Parish Hall from 4 to 6 p.m. All are welcome. We will teach anyone who is interested in learning to knit or crochet. The next meeting is October 16th.
Tuesday Night Bible Study

The Tuesday night Bible study led by Willa Valencia will be held on October 4, from 7:30 to 8:30 pm at the home of Ron and Tammy Borders on Williams Street. All adults are welcome. Please bring your Bible—any translation.
Lunch Bunch

Lunch Bunch will meet in the Parish Hall beginning at 10:30 a.m. on October 8, 2022. The Christ Church Valdosta Lunch Bunch feeds 120 or more hungry children every second and fourth Saturday of the month. Workers from the church as well as other members of the community who volunteer gather at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Church to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. They pack them in plastic bags, then brown paper bags with logo stickers together with chips, fruit, juice and other healthy goodies purchased from the Second Harvest Food Bank. Volunteers are welcome.
HEP Lunch

We had a great, diverse  and enthusiastic crowd at the first HEP Lunch time last month over 20+ HEP nooners! Friday seemed to be the best day and noon as a starting time with no ending time :) We will host the next one at our home on October 21 [every other month was suggested on the third Friday of the month.] We will provide soup, drinks and dessert- please bring mini sandwiches or whatever will go with soup. Looking for someone to host December gathering on Dec 16th [third Friday of the month.] Next one would be February 17- volunteers?

Stuffed Animals for the CAC

CAC Project Update: Keep those stuffed animals coming. The Children's Advocacy Center appreciates our donations of stuffed animals to comfort the children who come to the center for appointments. They schedule over 125 appointments each month, so we can always use more. If you have questions, please contact Patricia Marks at spmarks@bellsouth.net, or Julia Ariail at juliacariail@gmail.com. Thanks for your help.
** We have cancelled Vespers for October 2, 2022 so participants can attend the Stewardship Dinner.
Sunday Evening Vespers - a group of Christ Church members meet on Zoom (2nd, 4th and 5th Sundays) at 6:00 p.m. to read the Compline Service, pages 127-135 in the Book of Common Prayer and for friendly conversation afterwards. The first and third Sundays of the month we will meet in-person, but will make an audio recording available after Vespers for those unable to attend in-person.
