There are three things you can do to successfully submit images of your art to juried competitions and galleries; for promotion and for your website and social media.
Photograph your art correctly the first time! A poorly photographed image of your art typically will be declined or dismissed. This BobBlast is not a course on photography, but more about the three things that I have found that work to increase your chances of success. Most importantly, you can do this with your Phone.
Here are the three things you should be aware of:
- Photograph only your art No glass, no frames, no mats. Only your art with your signature. You are documenting your image.
- Avoid the hot spots or light glare. Even lighting looks more professional. Your artwork should look like your artwork!
- Pay attention to “keystoning” - this is where the closest edge of your artwork is proportionally larger. Your 2-D artwork should be shot squarely right on, not an angle.
Why is this important? Your photo, as submitted by you, will be used for submissions to juried shows, galleries and more. Your photos will go on your website, your social media pages - also any publicity!
So, photograph your artwork correctly the first time.
