This past week I had the pleasure to be at Art Center Sarasota in Florida - teaching a couple of in-person Workshops. The first workshop was a 3-Day Abstract Figure Painting & Collage. We had a two undraped and costumed Models for day two. Models always make for a Happy Workshop!
So - knowing I was not able to film a new BobBlast, we decided to pull a Figure Blast from the archives for this week's Best of BobBlast! Here is the original text from this BobBlast:
This week, in my Studio, we hosted a 4-Day Contemporary Figure Drawing and Painting. We had an undraped and costumed Model all four days! I had the opportunity to work with charcoal, pastel, ink - and my favorite Derwent InkTense Pencils and Blocks. For me, most watercolor pencils and colors are too weak. Some are not archival, some will eventually fade and some are not permanent when they dry.
What I wanted was Derwent’s highly intense colors - they call them InkTense! They don’t lift off when layered. I start with a dry pencil or ink sketch, then I layer Derwent InkTense Water Soluble Pencils on top of the sketch. Next step is dip my brush in water and lightly go over the dry pencil and Derwent marks, turning the drawing into a watercolor. I can now use my watercolor techniques and effects.
But wait! When finished, the painting will have more permanence than a watercolor painting - and the beautiful colors dry the same as when they were wet. You get the idea! Go to Derwent's website to read about these unique water soluble pencils and blocks. They certainly live up to their name - INKTENSE. Make sure you watch the Demo! Wet or Dry… They ROCK!
