I have found… when you work on only one painting, the fear you bring is not allowing yourself the necessary play time to experiment and "try, try again!"
For me, I practice warm up paintings every day. The subject may be one image - but the lesson of repeating a series of the same subject builds familiarity and confidence! The thrill is seeing how far I can go.
Simply put, painting a series of the same subject instills confidence. Repetitive painting is practicing and the MORE YOU PRACTICE, the closer you get towards your goals. The confidence you learn in your daily practice sessions will spill over into all of your painting time.
Along with that feeling of more confidence - I find that I become more curious and start to venture into previously unknown territory. I am comfortable to experiment with different colors, compositions, or points of view.

My daily warm ups are generally 10x10 inch watercolor paper. I practice painting six every morning. Each day is a different subject. In the video, you will see me working on 6x9s and 11x14s - any size will do! It's the practice that will help you make progress.
