Perspective Part Three - Perspective in 3D Technicolor!

Perspective, Part Three! This blast continues the lesson of perspective - creating the illusion of depth when painting a solid object. In the previous BobBlasts, you saw how I drew a horizontal line and two vanishing points. When connected, the drawing can be the start of an urban landscape. You also saw me work with three vanishing points to complete the illusion of depth - seeing a roof top, or simply the top of a box.

Part Three adds another element - COLOR -
which brings out the excitement. I experiment with color and dimension on a daily basis, doing a lot of "what ifs" and purposefully breaking rules, just to see what happens. I enjoy pushing the limits in my still life paintings and interiors.

The demo in this BobBlast shows me starting with a 3D drawing of a box top and two sides. I chose yellow as my play color. The TOP of the box is the brightest. It's closest to the imaginary light source. The SIDE furthest from the light source should be the darkest yellow. Watch the video to see how I handle the shadow and make this simple yellow box more painterly.

This technique is an approachable and uncomplicated way to get started with color.
