Hearth & Hymn is a close harmony, minimalist folk project produced by songwriters, song collectors, and multi-instrumentalists Samantha Cooper and Elisabeth Pixley-Fink. This polymer clay floral class is a little different as we apply our floral skills to create beautiful slabs of polymer clay! This technique is fun because you have a larger “canvas” to work with. Each person will make 1 - 2 pieces of jewelry (earrings, clip-on earrings, or necklaces).

LOCAL AND AREA ARTISTS FEATURED IN SUMMER SALON AT CHARLEVOIX CIRCLE OF ARTS

Charlevoix Circle of Arts’ exhibit gallery turns sales gallery for summer 2024, with the 5th annual salon-style art sale showcasing regionally inspired work from over 40 local & area fine artists.
Summer Salon begins June 28th and will remain up through August 31st. As artwork sells, artists will be restocking with new pieces making this a show to frequent. The Summer Salon Open House will be on Friday, July 12th from 5-7pm, along with the Paint Out Event and Wet Paint Sale & Reception, with complimentary refreshments. The public is welcome, and there is no cost to attend. The public is invited to visit this popular exhibit/sale. The Charlevoix Circle of Arts is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is located at 109 Clinton St., in downtown Charlevoix. Cookie Decorating Class at VUE

Please join us at VUE Wine Bar for our cookie decorating class and make some edible art!
This Fourth of July themed cookie decorating class will include guided instruction, by Cindy Wolff, and all other needed supplies. You will learn the basics of piping and flooding with royal icing, along with other decorating tips. You will take home a minimum of 5 beautifully decorated cookies, your own scribe tool, a cookie cutter, and the delicious recipes for both the cookies and royal icing! This pretty lady is Jade!
Jade originally came to us as a stray and was adopted, she was unfortunately recently returned due to her zest for adventure.
Jade is a very smart girl but will take herself for a run given the opportunity. When she was with us previously she did very well with other dogs (she also lived with a dog in her previous home) and seemed to do well with cats.
Jade is used to children of all sizes and would fit well in just about any family.

Great Start Collaborative receives preschool grant funding from local community foundations
The Great Start Collaborative of Charlevoix, Emmet and Northern Antrim Counties recently received preschool funding that will support families and children in Northern Michigan. The Charlevoix County Community Foundation and the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation both provided funding to the Great Start Preschool Scholarship Program.
“Having access to high-quality preschool is a key factor impacting a child’s school readiness,” said Savanah Cool, Great Start Collaborative director. “While there are income-based programs in our communities - Great Start Readiness Program and Head Start, specifically - there is not enough capacity in those programs to serve every child that would qualify. These scholarships remove financial barriers for families to be able to enroll their children in available tuition based preschool programs.”
The Charlevoix County Community Foundation provided $10,000 through the Community Priorities 2024 grant cycle.
The Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation provided $9,300 from its Boeckman Family Fund ($500), Ted and Brenda Frey Donor Advised Fund ($800), Circuit Controls Corp. Charitable Fund ($1,000), and Birchwood Outreach Fund ($7,000). Cool said these funds will be available to support families beginning in fall 2024.
“We are so grateful for these donations that help level the playing field and alleviate strain for local families,” Cool added.
Businesses, organizations, and individuals interested in donating to preschool scholarships are encouraged to contact Cool at the Great Start Collaborative, cools@charemisd.org. Char-Em Intermediate School District serves as the fiduciary of the collaborative with 100 percent of funds distributed back to Great Start Collaborative offerings. Tax incentives may be available for donations.
