Lenten Series: Spiritual Pathway

Fourth Sunday in Lent - March 10

"Growing in Community: Care in Encouragement and Accountability"

Sermon with Pastor Gary

GROW (Head) Growing in Community: Care in Encouragement and Accountability

John 17:1-3, 14-19 (Prayer for believers),

Acts 2: 42-47 (Early church in action)

Growth occurs in the context of a caring community…Beloved Community

What does it mean to Grow in Community as a part of our Spiritual Pathway? Our Gospel lesson from John 17 states that eternal life (true aliveness) comes from growing in our understanding of God revealed in Jesus Christ, and how we are called to be agents of God’s love in our everyday lives. The lesson from Acts, is that as agents of God’s love, we live a life to the fullness of shared community…a community marked by shared meals, shared gladness and simplicity, shared love for God. What does this mean for our spiritual journey pathway?

What’s Happening in the United Methodist Church?

Join us Thursday, March 7

Lots of changes have happened in our denomination in the last year and the first gathering of policy makers in eight years from around the world will be held in April. This meeting, called the General Conference, is a forum where issues facing the church will be debated and important decisions will be made.

Our Church and Society team felt it was necessary to be informed about these issues and find out how we can influence church leaders. We have arranged for Don Cramer, a lay delegate to General Conference and member of Central United Methodist in Milwaukee, to meet with us.

Please consider joining our discussion on Thursday, March 7 at 7 p.m. in the Chapel

Topics we hope to discuss include:

*the state of affairs in the national and WI United Methodist Church

*what are the major topics that will be debated/decided upon?

*how will issues surrounding same-sex marriage and gay clergy be

  addressed?
