School News

Last Day of School

Our last day of school is scheduled for Friday, May 31st. Bus service will be available in the morning, but there will be no bus transportation for dismissal. All students must be picked up from school. We will conclude the school year at mass with the circle song. Mass begins at 9 am. After mass, students will return to their classrooms and all students will be dismissed at 10:30 am. Report cards, student awards, and iReady results will be sent home on the final day.

Summer Assignments

Required Summer Math: Summer Solution Math Books

Each student currently in grades K-7 is required to complete a Summer Solutions Math book over the summer break. Books can be purchased through the Summer Solutions website. Please order the standards-based mathematics book for the grade level your child just completed. These books are also available in many bookstores as well as on Amazon. The book should look similar to this picture.

Required Summer Reading Assignments

In order to help students maintain their skills in Reading during the summer months, all students going into grades 1 – 8 are asked to read one required book as listed below. Each grade level Language Arts teacher will provide specific instructions to the students in a letter.

Students entering Grade 1: Let’s Go For a Drive by Mo Willems.

Students entering Grade 2: Get Ready for Second Grade, Amber Brown by Paula Danziger

Students entering Grade 3: Third Grade Angels by Jerry Spinelli

Students entering Grade 4: Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume

Students entering Grade 5: Rules by Cynthia Lord

Students entering Grade 6: Because of Mr. Terupt by Robert Buyea

Students entering Grade 7: Please follow this link for more details.

Students Entering Grade 8: The Last Book in the Universe by Rodman Philbrick

Archbishop Schnurr

Please join us in keeping Archbishop Schnurr in your prayers. This past Friday, May 3rd, Archbishop Schnurr received a post-operation diagnosis of stage 3 small bowel cancer. His doctor noted that, generally speaking, the Archbishop’s health is excellent, and that is certainly a source of optimism for the success of the treatment. The treatment plan includes a regimen of chemotherapy over the next six months, preparation for which will begin this week.

All Library Books Due May 16th

The last day to check out books from the GA Library was Thursday, May 9th, so all books should be returned the following week by Thursday, May 16th. Overdue notices will be sent out weekly until the end of the school year. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Leach at hleach@gaschool.org . No library books may be kept over the summer.

Book Swap in the Library

It is hard to believe that we are already facing the end of the school year! To celebrate, we are having a “Book Swap” in the library May 13th-23rd. Clean off those home bookshelves and bring in gently used books to trade for new books for summer. There is no limit on the number of books brought in, but please make sure they are appropriate for our school and in good condition.  For every book brought in, students will receive a ticket to trade in for another book.  Any leftover books will be donated. What a great way to “spring clean” and get some new books for summer reading!

CANabilitites Program at GA

Once again, our Angels will participate in the CANabilitites program. This program aims to provide students with the opportunity to engage in learning about individuals with physical and cognitive disabilities in our community.

The facilitation and delivery of this information will be through a respectful, fun, open, and safe environment that encourages questions and discussions from our students with a member of our community who has a physical or cognitive disability.

The most important element of this program’s delivery is to invite individuals with a physical or cognitive disability to our school to speak with our students. The goal is to focus on the “Ability” rather than the “Disability”

The CANabilities program will follow the same format each year and will partner with organizations and advocates in our community. CANabilities partners are:

1st grade: Art Equals director, Charlotte Reed, and CABVI Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired outreach speaker

2nd grade: Hearing Speech and Deaf Center

3rd grade: Skoolaid Wheelchair basketball game and speaker, lead by Team USA paralympic team members, Jacob Counts and Ian Smith.

4th grade: ASGC Ben Miller, advocated outreach speaker at the Autism Society of Greater Cincinnati

5th grade: Adult outreach advocate speaker, Megan and Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati Outreach director, Joanie Elfers.

6th and 7th grades: Skoolaid Wheelchair basketball game and speaker lead by Team USA paralympic team members, Jacob Counts and Ian Smith.

8th grade: Retreat morning at McNick facilitated by their Hands Across Campus Program and SAIL program.

Please reach out to Dena Conover with questions or more information dmcgarenia@yahoo.com .
