Principal's Message

Last week, I communicated our plan to have school open on April 8 while our area experiences the solar eclipse. At that time, public schools who provide busing to GA also planned to stay open, allowing us to have a normal school day. Since then, I have received additional information, including the closure of the Forest Hills School District on April 8. Their closure directly impacts GA, as they are not able to provide busing for our students on this day. Additionally, numerous GA families have informed me that their children will be absent on April 8, making instruction more difficult on this day. As such, Guardian Angels School will be closed on April 8, 2024. I apologize for the inconvenience this will cause some families and hope that all students can enjoy this once in a lifetime experience.

Good luck to Holly Leach and all students involved in our school musical- Disney’s Moana Jr.! Performances are scheduled for Thursday, March 21 and Friday, March 22 at 7:00 in the PC Gym. Many months of preparation go into a show of this caliber, and I look forward to seeing the students perform on stage!

God Bless,

Corey

St. Gregory the Great Youth Ministry Summer Volunteers Needed

The St. Gregory the Great Youth Ministry is hosting a variety of faith and fellowship days over the summer, and the number of students we can provide this service to is heavily dependent on the number of adults who volunteer. We are asking people to sign up to volunteer through April 17th, and after that time, we will open student registration. Many questions can be answered in the attached flyer or on the sign-up sheet. Also, if you have any additional questions, feel free to email youth@gaparish.org.

The Knights of Columbus are offering two $500 scholarships! One scholarship is for students entering fourth and fifth grade, and the other is for students entering sixth, seventh, and eighth grade. The scholarships are available to students at Guardian Angels and Immaculate Heart of Mary.

This contest encourages today's youth to be more connected to their community and their faith. The goal of this program is to involve young Catholics in civic discourse and instill in them religious and life-affirming values. The theme of this year's essay is Evangelism — explain how we and the Church can evangelize our faith to families, friends, and the community in the digital age.

Applications must be completed by the student and represent their qualities and accomplishments. Click here for the application details.

Applications are due either via email or to the school office by April 10th.

Track and Field Registration is Open

Guardian Angels Boosters are excited to announce that registration is now open for the upcoming third year of our current Track and Field program!

Last spring marked the first annual Guardian Angels Invitational K-6th grade and the response was so overwhelmingly positive that the CYO Track league awarded GA a 7th and 8th grade meet as well!! We also installed a Track and Field record board in the Main PC Gym at GA! Registration is now open, please click here to register!

GA will sponsor track teams this spring season that will last from March to mid-May. Boys and girls from grades K through 8 are invited to join and compete in various sprints, distance, relays and field events. The teams are K-2nd (co-ed), with separate boys' and girls' teams in 3rd & 4th, 5th & 6th, and 7th & 8th grade age groups. Different ages compete in different events including, 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m runs, 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 relays and High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put (softball throw for K-2nd) & Discus. There is something for everyone! Time commitment will be 1 to 2 practices a week (younger grades 1 practice, older grades 2 practices) held at Nagel Middle School, with 7 meets that last about 2 hours on Saturdays (K-6th), and 7-8th grade meets are held on Friday evenings. Please see the meet schedule here.

Playing another sport such as baseball, volleyball or soccer? No problem! This is a growing program — we are flexible about attendance and can work around other sports. We had many athletes last year that play on top club teams that still made track work in their schedules and we were happy to have them! We welcome all athletes to make as many practices or meets as they can. We encourage multi-sport athletes, as track will make your child quicker, faster and more explosive for all other sports!
