Hard work pays off! LHS Drill Team celebrate with coach and choreographer
The Good Stuff by Shelley Bennett
By Shelley Bennett

This week’s Good Stuff is all about the Good News at Lassen High! Our students are doing great things and it’s time to celebrate their success.

Last week, senior Neva Adams signed her letter of intent to play softball at William Jessup University. The 17-yeard old daughter of Jason and Rene Adams said, “the coaches and players took me as one of her own from day one” and made her feel like part of the Jessup family.
Coach Paul Moore praised Neva’s work ethic and said she is the “toughest person” he’s ever coached in his 33-year career. Neva will play outfield for the Warriors next year as she pursues a degree in Kinesiology and a minor in Business. She says, “Playing softball has taught me to never give up on my goals.”

Her father Jason thanked everyone who has helped Neva along the way, including her teammates, families, and coaches. Neva added gratitude to John and Katie Marsh for the “hours in the batting cage.”

Our LHS Grizzliettes competed in the Northern Nevada Cheer and Dance Classic over the weekend and came home with first place in the hip-hop division. The high-energy routine was choreographed by Drill Team alumni and former captain Anna (Young) Townsend and featured synchronized arm sequences, level changes, and multiple transitions.

Judges praised the team on their partner work, creativity, and spot-on timing. One said they were “fun to watch” and had a “great vibe.” The Grizzliettes will perform their award-winning routine on Thursday, February 10th at halftime of the boys’ varsity basketball game.

Their coach (that’s me 😊) praised the team for pushing through quarantines, postponements, and cancellations to get to this moment. Our captains, Mariah Beckman, Kadence McCracken, Izzy Norwood, and Samantha Ogburn were our glue during our preparation. They kept our practices focused and positive and led by example.

Lassen High hosted the FBLA Northern Section competition last week. Students took online exams, gave group presentations, and competed in public speaking.

Congrats to the following young professionals who competed against over 250 other students in the North State. They will be going to the FBLA State Leadership Conference in Ontario this Spring.
