Hat Creek is a family-owned company that produces raw materials (rock products, asphalt, and concrete) and constructs public, environmental and commercial projects throughout California.

In 2023, the company contributed to the state’s economy through projects in Lassen and nine other California counties, creating and sustaining 150 jobs and distributing $12.5 million in payroll.

According to the company Hat Creek’s road work placed nearly 267,000 tons of asphalt across nearly 160 miles, and recycled more than 143,000 tons.

In 2024, Hat Creek will be repairing and repaving Highway 44 from the intersection with Highway 36 west of Susanville, heading north approximately 37 miles to the Shasta/Lassen County line. The $27 million Caltrans project is expected to start by summer, and it will employ up to 40 workers daily with over $1.3 million in payroll. Hat Creek will also utilize over 112,000 tons of asphalt and nearly 30,000 tons of aggregates over 110 working days.

Many operations remain in-house: they own quarries, crush rock, process and produce various rock products, and deliver the aggregate on their trucks to their construction projects.

Tea of Life Has Moved

All Seasons Heating & Air, Inc

All Seasons Heating and Air is offering two $1,000 scholarships to local graduates who are planning on attending a trade school.

Kyle Baumiller, All Seasons’ owner, purchased the business, formally known as JH Heating, from Jim and Holly Young, six years ago, after working for Jim for six years.

Baumiller was just looking for a job when he got hired, but soon realized that he enjoyed working in the HVAC field. Now, he wants to help young adults realize that a good paying career doesn’t mean you need to go to college and there are many opportunities to find a career that you really enjoy.

“We started the scholarship three years ago to recognize the students who do not want to attend a college or university, but instead have aspirations for a trade school. Trades are so important to have in your local community and a great career choice that can lead to other opportunities,” Baumiller explains.

To be eligible students must be a graduating senior from a high school in Lassen County and have a GPA of 2.0 or higher. The deadline to submit an application is April 19th and applications can be picked up at All Seasons’ office, located at 922 Main Street, the LHS counseling office or by calling Ashley at 530.310.6513.

“Trades help with the upkeep of the community and maintaining homes. Having local trade businesses creates jobs and keeps money in our community.”

The Gun Works

The Gun Works, formerly on Main Street in uptown, has moved to their new location at the old Pardner building, 702-100 Johnstonville Road.

Owner Michael Alvin says, “We are very happy to be moving forward and into our new space. We have big plans for all of the space out here.”

“Without the support of this community,” continues Alvin, this move wouldn’t have been possible. We are excited to be a part of this community and we are going to continue to serve the people of Lassen County.”

Construction Work at Fruit Growers

Active construction work was resumed this week on the club house at the plant of the Fruit Growers Supply company. The foundations for this building were put in late last fall but the bad weather for the past month made it advisable to suspend building operations until conditions were more favorable.

Work will now be continued until the building is completed and it will be ready for use in the spring.

The framework of the planning mill is now up and there remains about sixty days work this building. It is the connecting unit between the dry kilns and the box factory and occupies a site midway between the two.

The building that will house the machine shop is now competed workmen are now busy installing the machinery and equipment.

Work is also being pushed on a number of new cottages for the accommodation of families of employees and several of these are now nearing completion. The company plans to erect a number of houses and cottages for this purpose during the coming summer.
