County Holding Draft Housing

Strategy Workshop January 9th

Lassen County is inviting members of the community to participate in an upcoming workshop on the county’s Draft Housing Strategy, to learn more about the update process, identify specific needs and opportunities and to share insights and ideas on improving housing opportunities in the future.

The housing strategy is part of the Housing Element Update which establishes specific goals, policies and objectives to guide the development of housing in unincorporated Lassen County.

Community input will be used in developing new Housing Element Policies and programs and to modify existing policies.

The workshop will be held Tuesday, January 9th, 2024 at 10:00a.m. in the Supervisor’s chambers at 707 Nevada Street.

Lassen County Housing Needs and Opportunities Survey

Housing issues affect the entire community — residents, employers, workers, and the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. The purpose of the Lassen County Needs and Opportunities survey is to identify any unique housing issues in Lassen County and craft solutions that meet the needs of everyone in the community.

The Housing Element is a required component of the county’s General Plan, and must be updated every five years. The updated Housing Element will include assessments of the County’s housing need over the next five years, policies and programs to address that need, and identification of available locations for housing development.

Through the County Department of Planning and Building Services, staff working on the Housing Element will conduct a housing needs assessment, prepare an inventory of available sites that are zoned for the development of housing, analyze government and non-governmental constraints, and develop housing policies and programs.

The Housing Element must be updated on a five-year cycle, as currently determined by the California Department of Housing and Community Development.

The County of Lassen’s current Housing Element, which was adopted in 2019, extends to June 30, 2024. View the County’s current Housing Element: Lassen County 2019-2024 Housing Element.

For questions or to respond to the Housing Element Update, please contact the Lassen County Planning and Building Services Department and submit your response in writing or contact Gaylon Norwood, Deputy Director, at (530) 251-8269 or LassenHousingElement@4leafinc.com

Uptown Susanville in the mid 1920’s

Young Man Gets Nifty Sentence

December 14, 1920

A young man named Waterhouse was brought before Justice Arnold early this week for being too handy with his fists, and received a sentence that will probably cause him to put brakes on his pugilistic inclinations hereafter.

The battery was made upon the person of a man old enough to be his grandfather, and was brought about by a controversy over potatoes stored in the basement under the Advocate office.

Waterhouse was given a sentence of $100 fine and thirty days in jail.

This ought to teach him to curb his angry passions.
