NCCR News
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

Many people suffer alone, quietly, with the pain of their lives. During this month of Suicide Prevention Awareness, I am reminded of an event that informed my decision to choose a career in counseling. When I was a young teen, a dear friend of mine committed suicide. I remember thinking to myself, "How could it be that bad and we had no idea?" He was happy, beloved by all, engaged in school and outside activities. I was dumbfounded how someone I thought I knew so well had been so sad and desperate on the inside that he felt he had no other choice - that suicide was the only way out.

This tragedy never should have happened. We can do so much more to help others to not feel alone, especially in their pain and suffering. We have all been impacted by suicide either directly or indirectly. Noticing the signs of depression and when to reach out for professional help can be a game changer for someone's life - maybe even your own.

At the very least, I'd love for you to know: YOU ARE NOT ALONE! YOU MATTER. If it feels like you have no other options, please come see us so we can help get you connected to some internal and external resources to bring you back into connection and hope. Keep on keeping on, good people of this crazy world. Remember ... we are stronger connected!

Best wishes,
Kim
