Chamber Members-
This year marks the third consecutive year of hosting the Colerain Chamber's Hometown Hero Celebration despite COVID/pandemic circumstances; last year we hosted over 200 people at the Willow Event Center. This year we will honor local Colerain High School graduates Judge Ralph "Ted" Winkler and urban muralist/artist Josh Stout along with three veterans in our community including Robert Doolan who was in a Stalag/POW encampment that was represented in the movie, The Great Escape; Robert is 105 years old too!!!
This year's Hometown Hero event will again have food trucks, music, various fundraising games like the Wheelbarrow of Cheer and a silent auction of gift baskets and donated items. Various non-profit organizations will be on hand to tell their respective stories and did I fail to mention that we'll have plenty of food and beverages?
Our Team Up to Green Up initiative continues to be just one story of many that gives us a chance to make our community a better place to live, work, and play. You will hear others if you listen closely to our Raving Fans; one of those stories could be you broadcasting your mission and sharing your experiences across the Colerain Chamber of Commerce.
While April showers bring May flowers. May flowers and warmer weather means that the chamber is heating up and that June is just around the corner.

KNOTTY PINE ROCK CLUB
The Knotty Pine was established in 1947 and purchased by the Weddle Family in 1981. Since then there have been additions to the building, the parking lot and a recently expanded outdoor deck featuring a beautiful Tiki Bar and sand volleyball court.

High Achievers Aim High is a nonprofit organization on a mission to guide youth in developing and achieving educational and personal life goals.

WHITE OAK ATHLETIC CLUB
The White Oak Athletic Club currently sponsors boys and girls in Baseball, Softball, Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, and Instructional programs. 'Our membership is over 1500 families. Haubner Field now has 3 baseball/softball diamonds which are also used for soccer, concession stand and a batting cage. The Joe Betsch Fieldhouse is used for our basketball and volleyball programs.'

JUDGE RALPH “TED” WINKLER
Judge Ted Winkler won re-election in 2020 for a 7-year term, has served the bench since 1999 and presided over 100,000 cases in his 23-year career. He said that he loves his current Judgeship because he gets to preside over all of the adoption cases in Hamilton County. He quips, “I have many people that have adopted me over the last 60 years”…that is the root of my success.
Remarkably, Judge Winkler returned $100,000 to the Hamilton County budget for funds not needed by his court.
After attending Monfort Hts Elementary and White Oak Middle, Ted graduated from Colerain HS in the class of 1979. He then graduated from the University of Cincinnati with his bachelor’s degree then his Juris Doctorate from Chase Law School at Northern Kentucky University in 1987.
Ted loved school and sports where teachers and coaches were great mentors. Being active in Colerain High School sports taught him the importance of never giving up and working as a team. Ted’s work-ethic started early and as he moved into high school and college he held down a job at the Colerain IGA. Ted is married to Teresa Winkler and they have three daughters and eight grandchildren. His strong faith in God is important as is his active role in his local church.

JOSHUA STOUT
Joshua Stout is a muralist from Cincinnati, OH who currently lives in Ludlow, KY with his wife Katie and daughter Elodie. Josh grew up in Colerain Township and lived there from the time he was in the 1st grade all the way until he graduated from the University of Cincinnati.
Joshua's main goals with his art are to beautify neighborhoods and add public art to areas that may otherwise not have a lot of exposure to the arts (specifically murals). He aims to inspire residents of the areas he paints in to take a greater interest in the arts. Joshua will be painting an outdoor mural in Colerain Township this summer.

LARRY SHAD
Larry turns 90 on August 10th and is considered the (official) Historian for the Township. Larry was born in 1932 and his family lived in Northside until moving north toward Mt. Healthy where he attended Little Flower School and graduated from Mt. Healthy High School. Outside of his time in the service, Larry has spent his entire adulthood living in Colerain.
An Air Force Veteran, he served in the Korean War (1951-1954) as a Remote Control Turret Technician on B-29 fighter planes. Last year, Larry actually was able to ride in a B29 for the first time in 70 years!!
After returning home to Cincinnati, Larry was a surveyor for over 40 years across Colerain Township (1957 to 2007) and owned his own business many of those years.
Larry has given back to the community in a variety of ways. He was one the last of the founding members on the Dunlap Volunteer Fire Department, has been an active member of Colerain High School for over 30 years where he served in various offices, including President. Larry chaired the Township’s Land Use and Planning Committee, the Township Zoning Commission, and represented Colerain on the Hamilton County Zoning Commission. With his planning background, he laid out the footprint of Dunlap Station in Heritage Park and mapped the former course of the Great Miami River.
In 2021, Larry devised and conducted a Colerain History Walking tour in Heritage Park and for the last two years, Larry volunteers to give walks 2 times a month in Heritage Park; sharing the rich history of Coleraine Township.

DON RICE
The youngest of three children of Mike and Clara Mae Rice, Don spent his early years in Riverside. The family moved to Colerain Township where Don attended Colerain Middle and High Schools. He was drafted into the Army in 1969. He did his basic training at Ft. Dix, New Jersey and AIT at Ft. Lewis, Tacoma, Washington and sent to fight in Vietnam. He was finishing his second tour when he was wounded and spent the next eight months in hospitals. He was medically discharged due to physical disability in December of 1971.
He started the Woodcraftsman Shop in Colerain Township in 1978. He and Patti married in 1983 and they continued working until 2018. Don was privileged to go to Washington DC as part of an Honor Flight in 2017. He enjoys hunting, fishing and working the yard.

BOB DOOLAN
Bob is 105 years young and grew up in Price Hill, attended Holy Family Grade School and graduated from St. Xavier High School after receiving a 4-year scholarship. He attended the University of Cincinnati, graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering.
Bob became a navigator on a B-17 with the 8th Air Force, 92nd Bomb Group, 326th Bomb Squadron. Rising to the rank of First Lieutenant, his unit went to England where they flew missions over Germany. Bob was on his 13th mission in 1943 when his B-17 was shot and forced to land in a field, in Holland.
He was captured and imprisoned for two years , but As the Allied Forces advanced, in January 1945, Bob and the other prisoners were marched to another camp from which they were later liberated, by units of General Patton’s Third Army.
After the war Bob returned to Cincinnati, got married, attended UC night school, and raised a son and two daughters. He started and led Boy Scout troop 614 at St. Antoninus for over 30 years. He was a tour guide, volunteered at his church, and has given many talks to civic organizations and schools about his war experiences. He has also been a member of the Dunham Choraliers and given countless presentations for the Life Learn Program.

The Colerain Chamber Golf League is in Full Swing at Pebble Creek Golf & Event Center!
With 20 spots available for those who want to play weekly or just want to play occasionally, this social group is about having fun and building relationships on the golf course.
After the 9-hole round, the porch is a great place for a sandwich or refreshing beverage along with gorgeous sunsets.
This weekly event is open to golfers of all skill levels; women are welcome as well.

What did professional baseball look like in Cincinnati in 1869? Brothers George and Harry Wright ruled the ball field, leading the 1869 Red Stockings to an undefeated season that spanned the United States. Players wore no gloves, and the uniforms and rules of the game were a bit different from what you'll see at Great American Ball Park today.
The Reds Hall of Fame and Museum's 1869 Red Stockings vintage baseball team endeavors to bring this history to life through various events and activities that further its mission, expose that history and vintage baseball to new audiences, and bring attention to the Reds Hall of Fame, while engaging Reds fans everywhere.

Colerain Township To Award Grants For Community Improvement Projects |

Colerain Township is interested in helping promote creative ideas and would like the opportunity to reward hard working individuals or groups on their ideas that could improve the community. Amounts of $250 - $500 for project proposals are ideal.
Tactical urbanism means making small-scale, temporary improvements to the built environment. Tactical urbanism projects are low-cost, temporary and demonstrative, meaning that they show how an improvement or solution would function.
The goal of the Colerain Township Tactical Urbanism Mini Grant Program is to give Township residents and businesses a creative opportunity to take initiative with planning of their community. The creativity is ultimately up to the applicants!
