The FPA of Michigan hosted its first "live" Symposium in two years on September 22nd and 23rd at the L.V. Eberhard Center in beautiful downtown Grand Rapids. Our theme was "#Community", and it was wonderful to be together again!

Speakers included Dennis Moseley-Williams, Robert Huff of Varnum, Kristi Higgins of Dimensional Funds, Jordan Jackson of J.P. Morgan, Glenn Mueller brought to us by Ares Wealth Management Solutions, Jackie Wilke of First Trust, Beverly Flaxington brought to us by Columbia ThreadNeedle Investments, Leon LaBrecque along with a virtual visit from Michael Kitces! Attendees also enjoyed collaborating over Table Topics during our RoundTable Discussion.

We were also joined by over 30 guest students enrolled in financial planning programs from Calvin College, Central Michigan University, Eastern Michigan University, Grand Valley State University, Michigan State University and Western Michigan University. The students were thrilled to join us, and our attendees enjoyed sharing their wisdom!

Attendees had a good time catching-up over cocktails and appetizers on Thursday evening. After the cocktail reception, attendees enjoyed a guided walking tour of ArtPrize and visited local breweries and restaurants in vibrant downtown Grand Rapids.

A big thank you to our Symposium Committee, Beth Zilka, Mary Medonis and Eric Hoogstra led by our Symposium Committee Co-Chairs Diane Winner and Bob Ingram.

AND OF COURSE, our Symposium could not have been so successful without the support of our Partners! For a complete list of our Partners and their contact information, click here.

We are already making plans for next year's Symposium. As soon as we have the date available, we will share as you want to mark the date on your calendar, so you don't miss out.

Mentor's Needed!

As we mentioned above, at the FPA of Michigan 2022 Annual Symposium, we had over 30 financial planning students from various Michigan Universities join us. These students enjoyed the opportunity to network with our members and our members enjoyed the opportunity to meet the students and answer their questions about the profession.

A few years ago, the FPA of Michigan introduced their Mentorship Program. The goal of the Mentorship Program is to connect FPA Members with students who aspire to pursue a career in financial planning.

Volunteers Welcomed

Volunteers = A Successful Chapter!

As you know, except for our Chapter Executive, the FPA of Michigan is made up of volunteers (to fill both our board and committees). We are now beginning to assemble our 2023 Committees and the FPA of Michigan Committees play an important part in both the success of our Chapter and serving the needs of our members. All Committees are led by a board-appointed chair and we look for our members to fill the role of committee member. Click here to meet our 2022 Committee Chairs and if you are interested in learning about any of our committees and how you can get involved, please contact the 2022 Committee Members or Mary at info@fpami.com.
