We did it!
Today is the big day! We are moving out after 12 years in the same “sticks & bricks” (house.) We will miss this house, the additional space, the stuff, and definitely the neighbors. God never promised following Him would be easy. Yet, He still calls some of us to leave everything to follow Him (Matthew 16:24-26). We are excited and ready to begin this journey! Until today, the beginning of this journey has seemed so far off. As one chapter closes, the new chapter begins with us saying “YES” to God calling us to serve Him as itinerant missionaries throughout the country. We know God’s plans for us are always good and are ultimately for His glory. We thank God for His faithfulness in our lives and through many of you! Thank you all for your love and support as this new journey begins!
Board of Directors
Our nonprofit ministry has 5 primary members on the Board of Directors. You likely already know the founders, Michael and Jennifer Ohaneson. We are honored to introduce the other board members.
Lee and Kaari Vasquez
Leonel (Lee) Vasquez was born in Mexico and afterwards grew up in southern California. His father became a Christian and soon the whole family became believers. His family lived and worked on a Young Life Christian camp for about ten years as well as another ten years at a Salvation Army camp. Lee grew up surrounded by ministry and camp activities. Lee studied mechanical engineering and worked a few years in the Los Angeles area after college. Kaari was born and raised in southern California, moved to New York from junior high until graduating from college with a degree in Speech and Language pathology. Kaari came from a family of strong believers. Kaari and Lee met through friends and corresponded through email for about one year until meeting for the first time in person. Kaari moved to Fort Worth Texas to complete graduate studies while dating Lee from a long distance. They were married two years later in 2005 and have served the Lord wherever He has taken them. They lived in northern Virginia for almost twelve years, serving as foster parents for most of that time and adopting their two 12-year old sons through foster care. Afterwards, God called them to leave everything and move to an orphanage in Mexico as volunteers. After two years abroad, they moved to Dallas where they continue once again to serve through foster care. Lee likes playing guitar, cooking, and doing handyman projects. Kaari enjoys art, reading, watching Netflix, and caring for young children. It was in Virginia that the Vasquez family first learned about Blessing Bags International, joining them at several Blessing Bag events and the rest is history. The Vasquez family was elated that Blessing Bags Intl. teams traveled all the way to Mexico to serve the communities surrounding the orphanage where they were living and they loved seeing how God provided in miraculous ways, created divine appointments, used families along with their children to glorify Himself and increase His kingdom.
Jim and Faith Battle
Jim lives in Northern Virginia with his bride of 46 years. They’re  are blessed with two grown children and 8 grandchildren. His wife’s name is “Faith.” When introducing herself, she often says, “Life is a faith battle!” This creates a great lead-in to share the Gospel.
Jim is an engineering graduate of Virginia Tech, and has a Master of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary.  He is currently enrolled in a Doctor of Ministries (Biblical Studies) program at Liberty University.
Jim trusted Christ through the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ (CCC, now Cru) at Virginia Tech and was on Associate Military Staff of CCC while serving in the US Marine Corps. He has worked in the computer field, including nearly 30 years with EDS, but is now “retired from making money.”  He has since started his own little business, BattleGear, developing Christian apps with the goal of “Equipping Christians for Spiritual Battle.”  (For more information, see www.BattleGearApps.com) He has published Bible memory apps for Awana and for the Navigators and has a family board game app described as “The Game of Eternal Life.” His latest activity is converting some of these apps to Spanish (which he doesn’t speak) to help some friends with a great ministry in the Dominican Republic.
Jim served for over 20 years on the Board of Elders at McLean Bible Church.  He spends a lot of time and effort using his gift of teaching with a variety of classes there, including How to Study the Bible, Christianity 101 and 201, and Bible book studies such as John, Colossians and Exodus.  He is most excited about his latest class, “Panorama of the Bible,” which covers Genesis to Revelation in 6 weeks.
Jim and Donna Gladden
Jim and his wife, Donna Forsht, live in Falls Church, VA with their four children Michelle (6), Renee (5), Lauren Riley (4), and Riley (2). They have been married for nearly nine years, and Donna is the love of his life. Jim grew up in a Navy family, and moved a lot throughout the continental United States. Most of his family is from Missouri, which is where he calls home. They spent many summers there and that is where Jim has his roots. Jim’s parents have been married for 45 years and he has two younger sisters. He has practiced commercial real estate for more than 20 years. He has a background in real estate finance and now lead the operation for a family who has developed, owned and operated multifamily and commercial properties primarily in Arlington for the past 65 years. Donna worked as an engineer at GSK for 16 years before she retired to focus on homeschooling their children. They are members of McLean Bible Church where they also serve in the lay ministries and are very active in Awana and other ministries such as CBS (Donna). Jim made the personal decision to receive Christ at about the age of 10 and was baptized at about 13.  After many wayward years as an adolescent, he rededicated his life to Christ in May 2007.  His greatest joy to walk with the Lord and serve Him.

We are blessed to have each of them serving with us as Blessing Bags International continues sharing God’s love through care packages and encouraging families to glorify Jesus by serving together.
