We Changed Our Name To U Ferment

In case you missed the September newsletter, we chose to change our local business name to U Ferment. Our new name reflects the diversity of our customers interests in all things fermented food and beverage!

Fruit Press & Crusher Rental

Although it is certainly late in the harvest, we have moved forward with obtaining a fruit press, and apple and grape crushers. We have until later next week when they arrive to work out the rental rates. We have yet figured out storage of this equipment at our store, so it may require more teamwork than usual during harvest season to navigate our store.

Before Hops There Was Gruit

The upcoming holidays are also a great opportunity for a historically significate beer...Gruit! Brewed with herbs and spices instead of hops, this style of beer is a great way to expose your palate to a wider range of flavors and aromas. Check out this video for a brief history of Gruit beer.

As we continue to experience growing pains, we have had a lot of customers asking about making their own vinegar. While we now understand the basic concept, we are learning about the process as quickly as we can. We found this 'Making Cider VInegar at Home' tutorial (PDF) very helpful.

Straight off our last two pallets, we have our largest selection of beer recipe kits yet! Favor IPAs? In-stock now are NorCal IPA, Cold IPA, Hazy IPA and Juicy IPA. Also available is everything from Pilsner to Stout.
