After announcing a desire to do all in coaching with 6 people for three months, I received quite a few responses from people.

As a reminder, this is not "pay by the hour" work I will be doing. Instead, I will interviewed people prior to selecting them because there will only be 6 people I will work with in this way during this cycle. I want to work with people who want to take bold action professionally or personally.

Again, to be clear, I am not simply a "career coach" or "job search coach."

I do leadership coaching with professionals trying to get better in their work so they are worthy of advancement. I do executive coaching with business leaders who have blocks with their success. I am doing work with the chief of staff to the President of a US entertainment firm. It can be with a small business owner who wants to get better.

I want to help 6 people accomplish something meaningful to them over the next 3 months.

We will text one another, email, follow up, call/Skype one another very regularly while you make the effort to make this "big step."

Yes, I will be working with you/them for three months and then you will decide whether you want to do something else. The goal is for you to take a big bold step in that time.

I am not setting a price for this. It will be one of the things we discuss when we speak. Price will be one of my variables when deciding whether to coach someone. What the challenge is, whether it interests me or not, but not solely money.

If you are interested in being one of the 6, email me at JeffAltmanCoach@gmail.com

I will begin interviewing people later this week.

What Are You Selling?

My father and mother were born in Poland, met in Siberia and emigrated to the United States after World War II. My Dad was a bookkeeper for a firm that he eventually bought from the founder's son who was in the process of running it into the ground.

I worked for him as a teenager doing filing and proofing columns. I was not made for such work. It bored me into having blisters in my brain (metaphorical blisters).

One day as we got into his car to drive home, he looked at me and said, "Jeffrey (he always called me "Jeffrey), you can work with your hands or with your head." I interpreted this father-son moment as meaning, you know nothing about working with your hands. Start focusing on my head.

The term, "knowledge worker" describes a lot of what my father meant. Many of you, like me, sell our knowledge of how something is done, should be done or can be done to employers who pay is for that work. But what happens in an age where such knowledge is readily available and the cost of obtaining that knowledge is declining because of its ready availability?

Is Your Job Search Getting Poor or Mediocre Results?

Maybe you don't know as much about job hunting or interviewing as you need to. After all, how much actual experience do you have? A few hours over the course of multiple searches.

Compare that to the 10000 hour rule that says becoming an expert requires 10000 of effort under the guidance of  a quality teacher.

I have 10000 hours of experience with job search ... times 9! More than 90000 hours of experience working with job hunters and employers.

Stop pretending to job hunt when all you do is wait for the phone to ring after applying to a bunch of job ads on indeed.
