We Are Going!

Faith Development Newsletter

Inside of every acorn is the potential of the whole blossoming tree. And so it is for each of us. That’s the self as a verb, not as a noun.

~ James Hollis

Greetings Families,

I hope you all are enjoying this wintery start to spring! Vermont sure likes to keep us guessing!

Our children have one more Sunday of age-based group explorations before we take a break for two very special multigenerational services:

On March 31st, Easter Sunday, we will once again act out the Jo Empson book, Rabbityness. Children will be invited to leave the Sanctuary with Faith Development staff and volunteers for about 25 minutes for bunny games before returning to finish the story. After the service we will have an egg hunt in the Memorial Garden. For this day to work we need parents to bring in eggs (see below), volunteers to help hide the eggs, and 2 to 3 adult volunteers who can both help to lead the children as they act out the story and supervise during the bunny games. Let me know if you can help in any of these ways!

On April 7th we have a special guest, Matt Meyer, leading a one-of-a-kind multigenerational worship experience to mark the solar eclipse, after which the entire congregation will be posing together for a historical group photo! (Wear your FUUSB eclipse t-shirt if you have one!)

Hope to see you all soon!

Warmly,

Erika

Annual Egg Hunt

Eggs Needed!

This congregation has a long tradition of parents supplying the filled eggs for the hunt. We ask each family to bring in 8 to 12 eggs filled with non-food items. Feel free to reuse and recycle; past eggs have been filled with pocket change, mini origami, flower seeds and bulbs, small toys, marbles, special stones, stickers, costume jewelry... have them here before 9:15 on the 31st. The easiest way to do this is to bring them with you on the 24th and leave them in the labeled containers near the entrances. We have many plastic eggs here that you can reuse, so you can also bring items in and stuff the eggs here.

March 31, 11:25

(15 minutes after the service ends)

Our annual egg hunt for children of any age (they're never too old if they still want to take part!) is happening after the multigenerational service.

All kids are welcome, whether they are Faith Development regulars or visitors from out of town, and we have methods for making sure every child has a chance to find some eggs.

The hunt will happen rain or shine (or snow)!

Volunteers needed: We need volunteer egg-hiders to hide the eggs at 9:15 on 3/31. Please email erika@uusociety.org if you are available to help.

Our Whole Lives (OWL)

Attention parents of current 6 and 7th graders!

Believe it or not, we are starting to make plans for the next time we're going to offer the 7th-9th grade Our Whole Lives (OWL) program at the UU Society. OWL is a comprehensive sexuality education program, giving young people the knowledge and resources to understand themselves, their bodies, and their relationships in age-appropriate, healthy ways. This can change lives.

Please fill out this OWL Interest Form if you are Interested in having your soon-to-be 7th/8th grader(s) participate in OWL at the First UU Society of Burlington in the 2024-2025 school year. If you have friends who are not active at the UU Society but would be interested in having their kids participate in OWL, please have them also complete this interest form now.

If we have sufficient interest, we will offer the program this coming year, but not again for two years We are looking at shifting to offering this level of OWL every other year, alternating between one year on and one year off.

Owl

We're requesting that people complete this form ASAP (by 3/31), so we know if there's sufficient interest as to warrant finding and training additional facilitators to complement our current team.

Annual Campout

Elmore State Park, June 14-16

For more than 20 years, members of First UU have gathered at this beautiful state park in mid-June to commune with nature and each other! This loosely planned weekend will include a Friday night potluck dinner, group campfires, sing-alongs, and an informal closing circle worship. Climbing the mountain and the fire tower are optional but inspiring activities!

There will be children; there will be youth, there will be adults, younger and older. If you like camping and UU fellowship, please consider joining us! (If sleeping in a tent is not on your to-do list, we welcome day trippers for the Friday potluck or Saturday beach and mountain fun!)

We may need to reserve more campsites, so please register now if you plan to stay overnight!
