Breakfast for Dinner
A Celebration of Aiden Ramsey
January 23
6 - 10p
The New World Tavern
Aidan Ramsey was an amazing, sweet kid and we want to help his family celebrate his life while helping raise money for the Aidan T Ramsey Scholarship Fund.
The New World Tavern is hosting a Breakfast for Dinner night to get everyone together to remember Aidan. Proceeds from the night will go towards the scholarship fund that is setup for selected student(s) at Silver Lake High School to help them take the next step forward to college.
Tickets are $20 which includes the buffet & soda/coffee/tea.
We will also be selling T-Shirts & Shamrocks to help raise money as well as a 50/50 Raffle.
Total Strangers have generiously donated their time to play on our stage out back for everyone to enjoy.
We would love for everyone to attend and enjoy each-others company, but if you cannot make it but still wish to donate to the family, you can send it to their Venmo for the scholarship fund @AidanRamseyScholarship.

Historical Tidbit:
Cowbells
|
When I was growing up my maternal grandfather, Guy Baker, use to call his corner of the world “Cowbell Corner.” Over the years I used the term myself, thinking the saying was quite quaint. He also owned an old cow bell (pictured here). I never remembered him saying why he called the intersection by that name but over the years I formed my own opinion as to why he did.
When he was growing up the family had a milk cow; she might have had a cowbell to locate her if she wandered away.As the years went by Mr. Baker bought his own home on the corner of Routes 105 and 106, not far from the home where he was born, thus making this “his corner.”
My paternal grandfather, Clyde Bosworth Sr. happened to have a dairy farm next door to "Grampa" Baker's new home leaving one to wonder if perhaps in the early mornings he would hear the melodious tinkle as cows moved slowly from one grazing spot to another as they left the barn. Or maybe around sundown, when the herd was being brought home for milking.
Farmers of the world have been belling their cows for thousands of years. In America, except for a few remote spots, the old and time-honored tinkle of the cowbell is now mute and almost obscure. Today's cows are mechanized and data-processed and the modern dairyman knows where every cow is at all times.
The traditionally prudent New England dairy farmer sometimes fashioned, with his frugal fingers, bells out of scraps of metal, which he then shaped with a hammer. History records the first commercial manufacturer of cowbells as being the Barton Bell Company, founded in 1793 in East Hampton, Connecticut.

“How can I save money managing my heating and cooling ?” You might ask.
MassSave provides an assessment the of your house-hold or business energy use. In Massachusetts - we’ve already pre-paid for it through a surcharge on our electric bill.
Check out the MassSave website, to schedule a no cost virtual or in-person home energy assessment and an Energy Specialist will assess the status of your energy use. They will also provide solutions to lead a more energy efficient household. MassSave collaborates with NGRID, Berkshire Gas, Eversource, and Cape Light Compact. New Veteran's Services Committee
|
January 10th at the Board of Selectmen meeting, Steve Littlefield proposed the termination of the Memorial Day Committee (which hasn't had anyone on it) and instead institute a new, all-encompassing Veteran Services Committee for the Town. He is happy to report that this was unanimously passed.
More details will follow in the coming weeks. Steve's goal is to have a committee where anyone who wants to help the Veterans of the community be able to have a forum where people can collaborate on ideas and put them into action to assist the Veterans and Veteran families of Halifax - especially those most in need. He will also work on Memorial Day and Veterans Day Ceremonies, community outreach, and more!
Thanks to the Board of Selectmen for their support, and Steve looks forward to big things in the coming months.

Waxing Cloud Poetic
“All shadows of clouds the sun cannot hide
like the moon cannot stop oceanic tide;
but a hidden star can still be smiling
at night's black spell on darkness, beguiling”
~ Munia Khan
“How sweet the morning air is! See how that one little cloud floats like a pink feather from some gigantic flamingo. Now the red rim of the sun pushes itself over the London cloud-bank. It shines on a good many folk, but on none, I dare bet, who are on a stranger errand than you and I. How small we feel with our petty ambitions and strivings in the presence of the great elemental forces of Nature!”
~ Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Novels and Stories, Volume I
“To say goodbye, is to die a little.
To say good morning, is a hope for a new sunshine in a cloudy winter.”
~ Nabil TOUSSI

It seems, this weather pattern has us all beneath a gloom, a layer of grey, blanketing us in the most unimaginative covering. But even to this, I say, let's laugh at ourselves, and bring our own colors to the party. When nature has sad days, let's cheer her up! ~ Jacquie
