Greetings!
Last issue I said I had never heard of Garam Masala, a new spice introduced to the Watkins line. I have since learned Garam Masala literally means "hot mixture" and is an Indian spice, much like curry. I love spicy foods, so I'm looking forward to trying it!
Congratulations to Wanetta W. of Sanger, TX for being the first to email me with a recipe using Garam Masala. She won a Watkins $25 Gift Certificate for her effort. Her suggestion was to sprinkle Garam Masala on hot buttered popcorn. Carrol M. of Bonsall, CA also emailed a recipe, which I have reprinted below.

Spice-Roasted Butternut Squash & Onions
2� pounds uncooked butternut squash, fresh, peeled, cut into 1-inch chunks
1 medium uncooked red onion, halved and thinly sliced
� tsp kosher salt
3 Tbsp cilantro, fresh, chopped
Preheat oven to 400�F. Coat a large nonstick baking sheet with cooking spray.
Place squash and onion on prepared baking sheet; drizzle with oil and toss to coat. Sprinkle with Garam Masala, salt and pepper; toss to coat. Roast, tossing about halfway through cooking, until squash and onions are tender and slightly browned, about 25 minutes.
Transfer vegetables to a serving platter or bowl and sprinkle with cilantro; toss to coat. Yields about 3/4 cup per serving. Serves 6. Cooking Tip: Cook the squash for 15 minutes at 400�F to make it easier to peel & cut.

 Herb Stuffing
1 cup/250 mL (2 sticks) butter
2 cups/500 mL celery, chopped
1 cup/250 mL onions, chopped
2 tsp/10 mL Watkins Thyme / Not available in Canada
2 tsp/10 mL Watkins Rosemary / Not available in Canada
1� tsp/7.5 mL Watkins Poultry Seasoning / Canadian Link

12 cups/3000 mL dry unseasoned bread cubes
4 cups/1 quart prepared Watkins Chicken Soup & Gravy / Canadian Link
Melt butter in large skillet on medium heat. Add celery and onions; cook and stir 5 minutes. Stir in Thyme, Rosemary, Poultry Seasoning, Seasoning Salt and Black Pepper. Place bread cubes in a large bowl. Add celery mixture and broth; toss gently until well mixed. Spoon into lightly greased 13 x 9-inch / 33 x 23 cm baking dish. Bake in preheated oven at 375F / 190C for 35 minutes or until heated through and lightly browned. Serves 18. |
