Reinventing the STEAM Engine
Established in 2019, the Winners Circle Project (WCP) incorporates the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) in supporting a student-led project where they are not only building a race car, but an entire race team. As a non-profit organization, the WCP is designed “To inspire the next generations of innovators through project-based learning” (Winners Circle Project).
Behind the Scenes @ WCP!
Each newsletter we will be focusing on the backbone, and greatest assets, of the Winner’s Circle Project (WCP), it’s staff. This month we are starting at the top, with Founder and Executive Director, Mawejje (Pius) Kayiira.

Pius founded the Winner’s Circle Project in 2019, after an extensive background working with young adults. What sets him apart from others is his big heart and unwavering belief in the students he works with, giving them opportunities to achieve at a level far beyond traditional instruction. His dedication and passion to his community, peers, and students is profound.
Progress in the Making!
The Watkins Glen High School Transportation 2 class has been given the exciting opportunity to build a race car from the ground up! Technology teacher Robert Hogan has divided his class into two teams: the “body team” and the “chassis team”. With approximately 15% of the project completed, the two teams are full throttle. The body team is focused on completing an eight-step process in order to get the car body race ready! While the chassis team is concentrating on the mechanics behind the build.

Our Marketing team here at Watkins Glen, led by Angela Morse, has been busy building a strong foundation for our racing team. Through logo design, team name, newsletter, and media release creation, our marketing team has made it their mission to make our racing team a collaborative effort. Our next focus will be spreading awareness through our social media pages, stay tuned!
What's all the Hype?!
When asked about the Winners Circle Project most people mention the car build, but it goes far beyond that. The student-led project also incorporates three major components: Visual Communications, Pathways to Success, and Marketing, Public Relations and Fundraising.

In just two short months we’ve already created a team name and logo through the Visual Communications piece led by Matteo Banfo, Director, Visual Communications. Participated in a Cob Therapy workshop, which embodied teamwork and team building through the teachings of Matteo Lundgren, Enrichment Coordinator. And lastly, we created our first news media release and newsletter with guidance from Stephanie Specchio, Marketing Instructor. With so much excitement right from the start, we can’t wait to see what’s next!
