Active Teddy Bear Care:
The Teddy Bear Clinic made three visits this February, once to Kitchener Public Library and twice to The Girl Guides of Canada.
To appreciate the popularity of this clinic you would only have to look at the Kitchener Public Library to understand. As an, "open event" the library sees up to 70 children come through the clinic in a three hour time frame. There is no sign up in advance just an invitation and word of mouth of its success.
What makes The Teddy Bear Clinic a rewarding community service learning activity is educating children about healthcare through play. Medical learners can perform a surgery on a well loved stuffed bear and instantly see children witness the compassion of a physician.

Podcasts and Glam:
Through their work with GlamourGals, on Feb. 24th a group of medical learners visited Chartwell Terrace on the Square Retirement Residence to provide companionship and manicures to residents.
Dr. Brian Goldman from CBC's radio podcast, "White Coat Black Art" was present to interview both the GlamourGals and retirement home residents. He spoke with Harleen Chahal who started this chapter of GlamourGals about how effective the visits are in alleviating elder isolation.
In the podcast, conversations between residents and learners are heard where in spite of their age difference, commonalities are found in family, career aspirations and life stories. To hear the podcast click here
