Celebrating a Year in FM


At the Boardwalk on June 7th, first and second year postgraduate family medicine residents gathered with faculty and administrative staff to celebrate the many academic achievements of the past year.


Awards were distributed to preceptors and residents for excellence in leadership, academic achievement, dedication to family medicine and commitment to serving the Kitchener/Waterloo area.

Upcoming Clinical Skills Preceptor Training


Are you interested in gaining the tools to be an effective Clinical Skills Preceptor? Join Dr. Laura Purcell, Faculty Development Coordinator and others for an informative Preceptor Training Session which will cover the following objectives:

 

·      Practice teaching with standardized patients in a simulated environment

·      Arrange appropriate referrals to Student Affairs

·      Assess professionalism in students and devise a plan to address professionalism lapses

·      Prepare a clinical skills teaching session

A Friendly Visit to WRC


Therapeutic Paws paid a visit to campus in June to support learners during their comprehensive MF4 foundation. One of the visitors included Jack, the German Shepherd, a former street dog from Cairo, Egypt who is a regular visitor at post secondary institutions and retirement homes.


Therapeutic Paws is a program that has certified and insured therapy pets visit an individual or group in need of wellness support including seniors, children, first responders and individuals with disabilities. Their website boasts visitations reduce stress and improve emotional health and communication skills.

PGFM Award Recipients

Recognizing Exceptional Preceptors, Teachers and Residents





The McMaster Community and Rural Education (Mac-CARE) Program award honours a community preceptor in each of McMaster’s four clinical education campuses of Grand Erie Six Nations, Osler, Halton, and Burlington.


The Mac-CARE Excellence in Teaching Award is presented to a preceptor who demonstrates excellence in teaching, enthusiasm and motivation to their students. This year, Dr. Chris Hinkewich is recognized as the recipient of the, “Mac-CARE Excellence in Teaching Award for his dedication to medical education and practice in community hospitals. WRC would like to issue a correction in the WRC Faculty & Staff Digest May issue with Dr. Hinkewich's headshot.
