Investing in Our Community’s Water System

Thornton’s Water Utility is like any well-rounded organization – it requires thoughtful investment over time to continue to deliver safe, clean water to our community. Like many cities across the country, Thornton has experienced the impacts of inflation, rising costs of maintenance, and the need to enhance water treatment practices to remove harmful chemicals and increase water quality.

To address these rising costs, new water rates will go into effect on April 1, 2024.

We always aim to minimize the impact of water rate increases and anticipate that most residential water customers inside city limits will see an average monthly increase of $2.32 during winter months and $4.79 during summer months. Every dollar you pay helps to maintain and improve the dynamic water system that reliably delivers water to your home.

If you’re having trouble paying your water bill, the Thornton Water Assistance Program is available to help income-qualified individuals and families. Garden in a Box

Sales Now Open!

Garden in a Box are now on sale! This program from our partners at Resource Central helps water customers replace thirsty lawns with professionally designed, low-water garden kits tailor-made for this climate. The do-it-yourself kits include perennial plants, plant-by-number maps, seasonal maintenance suggestions and watering recommendations.

As a Resource Center partner, Thornton water customers get $25 off select gardens. A limited number of discounts are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so early ordering is highly encouraged! View garden collections and pre-order yours online. Your Garden in a Box will be available for pickup and planting in May and June.

Apply by April 1 to streamline your application process and secure a discount. By meeting this deadline, you'll have more time, resources and educational support to plan your project and increase your chances of securing a Garden in a Box kit.
