Save the Date: "Egg"straordinary

Pancake Breakfast & Egg Hunt on March 30


Join us at Smith Park for the 79th Annual Pancake Breakfast and Egg Hunt, sponsored by the San Gabriel Kiwanis Club. The event will take place on Saturday, March 30, from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Families and friends can enjoy a variety of fun spring activities and a visit from Mr. Bunny.


Here is the schedule of events:


7:00 a.m. – Pancake breakfast begins

7:30 a.m. – Coloring contest begins

9:00 a.m. – Pancake races for adults and kids aged 7 to 16 years old begin

10:00 a.m. – Egg Hunt for kids aged 12 and below begins


It is highly recommended that participants bring their own baskets and spatulas for the pancake race and egg hunt.


The pancake breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, and a choice of juice, coffee, or milk for a donation of $8 per plate or $30 for 4 plates.

Last Chance to Sign Up for the All-City Pentathlon

 

Registration for the upcoming All-City Pentathlon for youth will close this Friday, March 8. The race will take place on Saturday, March 16 at Jefferson Middle School, located at 1372 East Las Tunas. This free event is available to San Gabriel residents in 2nd through 8th grade and will start at 9:00a.m. Participants will compete in five different track and field events, including the 50-meter dash (grades 2 to 5) or the 100-meter dash (grades 6 to 8), 200-meter dash, softball throw, running long jump and the standing long jump.

Technology Tutoring is Available Every Wednesday


Our free Technology Tutoring program welcomes anyone aged 50 and above to refine their digital skills on laptops or smartphones. Each participant will have a one-on-one 45-minute session with enthusiastic teen volunteers. Appointments are available every Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.


Our high school volunteers are well-equipped to assist with a wide variety of tech devices, including iPhones, Androids, tablets, laptops, and more.

Apply to Become a City Commissioner by March 25


The City Council relies on commissions to provide advice on several important matters such as civil service, design, recreation, planning and historic preservation. We are currently accepting applications for volunteer candidates to serve on either of the city’s five commissions. Each commissioner will be serving for up to two-year terms starting from June 1, 2024, until May 31, 2026.

City Council Meeting - March 5, 2024


Watch a replay of the March 5 City Council Meeting during which the below key actions took place:


  • The City Council honored three women-run businesses for Women's History Month: Caribbean Gourmet owned by Yonette Alleyne, Lunas Restaurant owned by Roxane Guzman, and El Pavo Bakery and Restaurant owned by Carina Rivera.


  • The City Council passed Ordinance No. 702, allowing medicinal cannabis delivery-only shops in specific zones. They placed a temporary stop on new shops for 45 days, later extending it for three months to set up regulations.


  • The City Council agreed to host the 2024 Active Streets Mission-to-Mission event with neighboring cities. The event promotes walking and biking and will be held on Sunday, April 28.


  • The city hired a polling firm to ask the public about potential property tax increases for a new safety headquarters and changes to business taxes. The results were presented at the Council meeting. A representative from FM3 Research presented the results.


  • The City Council approved the annual report of Assembly Bill 481 and updated Policy 707 regarding military equipment. The second reading and adoption of the Ordinance is scheduled for the next regular Council meeting. Adoption of the ordinance would renew and update the policy, approve the Military Equipment List, and establish a new process for future changes.
