Wanted: Subject Matter Editors

The Mantle seeks subject matter editors for the following areas: Arts & Culture, Books, and Philosophy. Editors are expected to discover new talent to feature on our blog, with emphasis on finding critical voices from around the world. Editors should solicit and provide initial edits primarily for blog posts (~850 words) with the opportunity to work on feature articles (1,200+ words). Blog posts can be text, video, or photography. Editors consult primarily with The Mantle's managing editor.

Arts & Culture: Broadly defined as the visual arts, theater, and film. Special emphasis on uncovering the intersection between art and politics and on artists who may be censored by authorities.

Books: Covering fiction and nonfiction discussions of recently published material from around the world, as well as author interviews. Unique takes on classic material also welcome. Special emphasis on literature in translation and scholarly work.

International Affairs: This position currently unavailable.

Philosophy: Editor should be familiar with critical theory and the continental tradition, with a special emphasis on non-Western critical thought. Editor should identify writers whose work maintains a practical connection to political, cultural, and artistic milieus. Interviews with philosophers welcome.

All writing should focus on providing high quality introductions to and applications of ideas for a non-academic, international readership. This is a unique opportunity for up-and-coming editors to hone writing and editing skills, meet and develop new talent, and set foundations for large, influential projects.

Address all inquiries to the editors at info@mantlethought.org.

The Mantle provides a forum for the next generation of critics and leaders to be heard-a space for opinions that are different from those found in traditional, established outlets. With increasing interconnectedness brought on by the forces of globalization, we believe it is imperative everyone be given a chance to shape social, economic, artistic, and political discourses. The Mantle's objectives are achieved through critiques, essays, and interviews on important issues and shorter missives posted on our blog. We also hold the occasional live event, including art shows, panel discussions, salons, and social gatherings.
