Walking in the

Steps of a Saint

Father Casey

This weekend I depart on pilgrimage to Scotland with eight high school students, along with Director of Youth Ministries Delynda Moravec. The Scotland pilgrimage is a beloved tradition at our church, dating back some 20 or more years. Past youth pilgrims speak effusively about the ways this experience formed their faith and deepened their souls.

While we’ll visit several places, the true “destination” of our pilgrimage is the holy island of Iona. Iona is a seemingly unassuming patch of rock in the midst of the sea, but for nearly 1500 years, Christians have journeyed there to experience its serenity and holiness. The Spirit feels somehow nearer there, like the veil that so often shields our spiritual sight gets tugged back just a bit there, so we can see the Almighty who is actually always with us.

The island is associated with Saint Columba, a man of such charisma and sanctity that his tiny community of monks grew to become one of the greatest centers of Christian faith and knowledge in the western world. So great was...

Faithful Departed

Luann Tucker Welch

We mourn the death of Luann Tucker Welch, devoted 50-year member of Transfiguration and a pillar volunteer in The Clothes Horse for decades. Funeral arrangements are being made and will be announced soon.

Wilbur Davis McCoy

We also mourn the death of Wilbur Davis McCoy, father of our Director of Communications, TJ McCoy, who died on July 11.

Please keep Luann and Wilbur, as well as their families and loved ones in your prayers.

May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace and may light perpetual shine upon them.

This Weekend & Week

Your Voice Is Needed

Bishop Search Survey

Your opinion is important! The Diocese of Dallas is conducting a search for a Bishop Coadjutor. This person will serve alongside Bishop Sumner and upon his retirement, will become the next Bishop of Dallas. To inform our search process, we’d like your input. Your responses will help the Bishop Search Committee develop a profile of the skills, qualities, and gifts that Dallas seeks in its next bishop.

Click the button below to access the survey. The survey will take approximately 20 minutes and must be taken in one sitting. While the survey can be taken on any device, we recommend one with a larger format screen such as a computer or tablet. The survey will be open from now until July 29 and aggregate results will be shared at listening sessions across our diocese in late August and early September. Please contact Cathleen Dolt with any questions. You can follow information concerning the search from the diocese as well.

Gather After The Table

A reminder that our monthly gathering following The Table will be tomorrow, Saturday, July 13. Please plan to take a few minutes to join us for light refreshments and some time visiting with others of your Fig Family.

In Case You Missed the T

If you missed the opportunity to be a part of Spill the T! where members of our community helped recount Transfiguration's history, be sure to join us this weekend for a special slide show recapping the event.

Peace Post Sunday

Too often we feel powerless in the face of tragic international conflicts - but in the US, "we the people" do have power!  We're encouraged by the Episcopal Church to work for the release of unjustly detained Palestinian prisoners, including a young Anglican woman recently arrested. Presiding Bishop Curry has asked that we add our voice to those objecting to Israel's forced closing of the Al Ahli Arab Hospital operated by the Anglican Diocese of Jerusalem. Come write with us this Sunday, July 14 - any time between 10:00am and 1:30pm.

Breaking Ground

When you come to Church this weekend you will notice that work around the porte cochere and belltower is well-underway. We ask for your patience and care as you move around the parking lot and campus for the next few weeks as the improvements are made. Exciting things are happening!

Pray for our Pilgrims

The Transfiuration Choir has returned from Edinburgh; and eight of our youth, along with Delynda and Fr. Casey, have begun their long-awaited pilgrimage to Scotland. As Father Casey elaborated in his article above, they will explore the deep reaches of our faith and the origins of Christianity in the British Isles. Please keep them in your prayers throughout their pilgrimage.

Call for Vestry & Diocesan Delegates

Throw your hat into the ring to join the Vestry or become a Diocesan Delegate. These important positions provide leadership for our church and representation in the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas.

Applications are due by August 4 for Vestry Candidates and by August 30 for Diocesan Delegates.

Another Way to Help

One of the ways our church serves the homeless is through the little pantry which is on the right of the church doors. You can help us keep it stocked.

Items to contribute: Food that can be eaten walking away from the pantry such as cans with pull-tops, easy-to-eat proteins, water, non-perishable fruit and veggies. Just drop your contributions in the brown basket near the name tag board.

You can also assist with our efforts by volunteering to be responsible for checking and adding items to the little pantry one weekend each quarter.

Meet The Vestry Next Weekend

Quarterly members of the Vestry host the opportunity for you to meet with them to learn what's new and share your questions, insights, and ideas. This quarter's meeting will be next Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21. Please look for your vestry members in the Gathering Space and take a moment to hear what's new.

Calling all Sound Technicians!

We are eagerly seeking new sound technicians to help at our three weekend services. If you are interested in learning more and being trained, we invite you to join us on Saturday, July 20 and July 27 at 10:00am to explore the new Roper Hall sound system. This special meeting will provide valuable insights for both current and prospective team members. This ministry helps us ensure that everyone hears and enjoys all of our services.

Opportunities For You

A Special Way to Give

Did you know that the Transfiguration Endowment Fund was first established decades ago with a $100 gift from Fr. Terry Roper? And this past week he made another contribution in honor of his 89th Birthday. You, too, can honor significant milestones in your life, or in the life of someone you love, with a gift to the Endowment. In fact, an anonymous donor has pledged $1 for every year being celebrated by such a gift, which led to an additional $89 being donated in honor of Fr. Roper's 89th Birthday. To make a commemorative gift for yourself or someone else, donate through Realm or mark “Church of the Transfiguration Endowment Fund” on the check and indicate the number of years in the memo line. If you have questions, please contact Bill Keslar, Endowment Committee Chairman.

Mexico Pilgrimage Opportunity

There is an opportunity for 2 people to join pilgrims from Transfiguration on a journey to the mountains of Mexico in 2025 to witness one of nature’s true wonders: the vast overwintering monarch butterfly colony. Led by Fr. Casey, this pilgrimage is tentatively scheduled for February 19-25, 2025 and will feature visits to three different parks in the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Preserve, engagement with local culture and people, and a visit to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. The cost is $1,800 plus airfare. Most of the trip occurs at/above 8,000 ft of elevation, including hikes of several miles, so participants must be in very good health. If you have further questions, please contact Fr. Casey.
