76-Year-Old Woman To Complete 825-Mile Walk for Racial Liberation in Montgomery

Rachelle Zola, a 76-year-old advocate for racial equity has reached Montgomery after an epic 825-mile journey that began in Chicago on April 2, 2024. After taking over 1.5 million steps, she reached Montgomery, Alabama, September 9 – pausing at Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church.

But this journey is not over.

You are invited to join her this Thursday, September 12, 4pm (RAIN OR SHINE) to walk or roll alongside her, retracing the footsteps of those who marched for Black voting rights in 1965. These will be the final steps of her journey. The gathering will begin on the steps of Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church and culminate at the Capitol Steps. Afterwards, everyone is invited to St. John's Episcopal Church for refreshments and dialogue circles.

Esteemed speakers include Rev. Allen J. Sims, Rev. Valtoria Jackson, Dr. Robert White, Rev. Richard Williams, and Georgette Norman. See below for the full LATE LOVE Montgomery schedule.
