Thank you all for attending our Community Dinner that centered the enslaved people who harvested, lived, worked and contributed to building our Town and Wake Forest University. Your attendance at this special event advanced our mission to explore the history and systems that necessitate our food distribution program. As I stated at the opening of this beautiful gathering:
"...we gather on hallowed ground to explore one of those causes and to honor and remember the enslaved people who lived and worked right here. We have this rare time and space to come together to do what those enslaved people could not do, enjoy a meal together, make connections with others in the community, speak the truth, and celebrate and honor their work. We are centering the enslaved people who lived and worked in our town and the legacy they have left- this is unique and important work we will do together tonight."
My hope is that you will continue this work in your homes, workplace and in our community. This gathering would not have been possible without the financial support of Wake Forest University and the work of the Museum Staff and Interns who continue the research of the people we began to learn about last Thursday night. Thank you!
