June Gathering:

Seen and Unseen- Walking Tour and Table Conversations

You are invited to our next Wake Forest Community Table Gathering on June 23 at 6pm. This will be a walking tour on the Seminary Campus led by the Wake Forest Historical Museum.

We will move through three locations on the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary Campus and explore what is "Seen and Unseen" in the heart of our Town.

Wake Forest University and Wake Forest Historical Museum partners will lead short historical talks at three different locations on campus that will address "Slavery on Campus," "Lost Cause and Jim Crow on Campus," and "Faith and Community on Campus" some of the subtopics will be the life of Thomas Jeffries, African American Labor on Campus in the 20th century and founding of African Chapel & Olive Branch. Then we will gather to discuss the tour in smaller table groups in the Fellowship Hall at Wake Forest Baptist Church. Learn more about our panel.

Spring Highlights and Special Thanks to:

May was a great start to the unofficial summer season. We have been serving more meals each month at both locations thanks to your continued donations. Due to the rising costs of food and fuel for our chefs, we are paying $6/plate moving forward.

If you or your organization would like to sponsor plates or an entire evening of meals, please use the donate link in this news letter or contact me. We are very busy on Monday and Wednesday nights and so thankful for the dinner donations from Wake Forest Baptist Church on the second and fourth Wednesdays and from Olive Branch on the fifth Wednesday of each month. Hope House continues to sponsor one week of meals each month on Monday nights and Wake Forest Christian Church, Wake Forest United Methodist Church and St. John's Episcopal Church all provide substantial funding for meals and expenses of our program. Our community is so grateful for all of the people who make this program possible.

WF Presbyterian Giving Garden and Northeast Community Garden for providing fresh produce to our program- this fresh produce has been so greatly appreciated with rising costs of food!

Chef Gwen Sneed who provides home cooked meals each Monday night at Hope House.

Note in the Pocket: This awesome organization continues to provide clothes including new summer wardrobes over the last month to about a dozen kids who attend our program. We are so grateful for this amazing program!

Tri Area Ministry: Continues to administer the the Wake County Food Hub fresh produce program.

Our dedicated volunteers who show up every week in all types of weather to meet new people, feed people and love their neighbors!

Del Webb Community: Last month this community answered the call for the creation of "Vision Board" bags that we will distribute at the Upcoming Juneteenth Celebration and at our food program for families to design vision boards that represent their dreams and hopes for their community and themselves.

Suzi Hetzel's Art Class at St. John's Episcopal Church: Each week Suzi's students pay to take an art class from this amazing artist and teacher and she generously donates all of the proceeds to purchase meals! Check our Suzi's work.

Meg Ellis: Generously donated 25 meal cards from Chick Fil A that will be used to supplement our meals this summer and will be a great treat for busy families!

Starbucks, Pizza Hut and Olive Garden: Continue to participate in the weekly Food Harvest program and donate surplus food to supplement our weekly dinners. Let me know if you would like to join the pick up team!

Hope House and Wake Forest Christian Church for each sponsoring one week of meals again this month and sending wonderful volunteers to pack and serve on Monday nights.

Chef Jackie from Oink and Moo: Who seamlessly joined our program in May and cooks meals on the first and third Wednesdays of each month!

George Shaw: Through an innovative project called "Stamp Out Hunger" he donated almost 100 meals this month. Please read more about how you can participate below*

Stamp Out Hunger Stamp Purchase and Donation Program- by George Shaw

*George and Michelle Shaw's program Stamp Out Hunger has contributed more than $1000 to local hunger ministries by fulfilling orders for the purchase of postal stamps that you would otherwise purchase at the USPS- instead you can purchase from George's collection and help our program. If you or your business buy Forever stamps, 15% of the cost is donated and 35% of the value is donated if you purchase a combination of stamps that make up the first class letter rate.

Orders can be placed with George by email and you can pay by check. The stamps will be mailed to you. The minimum order is $12 which is equivalent to 20 letters after July 10 when rates go up. If you order Forever stamps before July 10, you will pay 58 cents per letter. This will save you money while you donate. And you do not have to stand in line at the Post Office. Many people purchase the stamps for holiday cards. These can often be customized for specific themes such as religious holiday stamps, dogs or literature.
