Consider family meeting to discuss estate plans
| |
At some point, you’ll want to share your estate plans with your loved ones – and the first step in this process may be to hold a family meeting.
During this meeting, you may want to cover these three areas:
First, explain your wishes, in a general way, regarding your goals as far as what you want to leave to your loved ones and possibly to charitable groups. And be sure to listen to your family members’ questions and concerns.
Next, discuss your estate planning documents, or the ones you plan to create, including a will, living trust and powers of attorney.
Also, talk about the roles you have envisioned for your family members in carrying out your estate plans. For example, you will need an executor for your will and a trustee for a living trust. Plus, you might mention your initial thoughts on who you’d like to serve for health care and financial powers of attorney.
You may need to hold additional family meetings in the future, but by laying the initial groundwork, you will have taken a big first step in establishing the legacy you’d like to leave.

Time for a Health Insurance review!
If you’re a business owner, one of the things you may dread most is your upcoming health insurance renewal. No one relishes the potential increase as it’s probably one of the more volatile costs you will have in your business. Most businesses typically renew on January 1st , so you will be receiving that email any day now.
While it’s no fun to deal with, health insurance in this country (notwithstanding the tribulations of the healthcare industry) is a necessity as the costs of healthcare have skyrocketed. That is why it is consistently one of the most requested employee benefits by employees.
As broker-agents, Standring Financial can help you navigate the bumpy road of health insurance renewals. By utilizing multiple carrier quoting and using back offices to help us adjudicate claims, we can help from plan quote to implementation to ongoing support. We have over 40 years of experience in health and other employee benefits. Sometimes, all it takes is the right phone call to make a claim go away or perhaps it’s just time to make sure you’re not overpaying.
At the same time, you can ask us about Illinois Secure Choice, the state-mandated retirement plan for nearly all employers in the state of Illinois. Yes, there is a regulatory requirement for you to have a retirement plan for your business or use the state’s Secure Choice Individual Retirement Account. If your business has more than 5 employees and has been in business for more than 2 years, you may want to give us a call today to see what other options you have available to you.
Call us today to see if we can help!

In addition, the Library is in the mood for a truly chilling read this winter. We’re encouraging everyone to join The Village Read: pick up our collection of Edgar Allan Poe’s most spine-tingling tales and poems (free copies are available while supplies last). On January 31, we’ll have a thrilling program as Edgar Allan Poe, played by Terry Lynch, gives a biographical sketch of Poe’s life and retells some of his greatest works. And, on February 6, we’ll get together for food, fun, and great conversation about the book.

From the Cook County Assessor's Office | |
|
At the Assessor's Office, we are striving to make assessments more accurate and fair and to better serve your business community, especially small businesses that need support navigating our assessment system. Each commercial corridor and small commercial property may have specific circumstances that impact its value, such as occupancy or changing uses. We're here to help.
In the first quarter of each reassessment year, we send a form (RPIE) to each commercial parcel owner that allows the owner to submit information about rents, costs, occupancy, and other circumstances that affect the value of their property. This allows us to gather specific information that often saves time, money, and trouble before assessment notices are sent out. This form must be filled out when making an appeal, so commercial property owners are realizing it makes sense to submit an RPIE form.
We're happy to engage with your business community at other times as well, of course. Our outreach team wants to engage with each village's Economic Development Officer and Chamber of Commerce so we can provide services and better help you. We can also help improve your local investment environment by providing our data about your local real estate values. For example, we hep investors, lenders, and underwriters estimate how a new property is likely to be assessed in your community.
Visit https://www.cookcountyassessor.com/rpie for more information.

Theatre of Western Springs
| |
|
The Theatre of Western Springs (TWS) announces the third Mainstage production of its
95th season – “Pygmalion” by George Bernard Shaw and directed by Ray Frewen of
Downers Grove. It opens on Thursday, January 25, and performances continue
through February 4, 2024, in the Lou & Nancy Schauer Auditorium at the Theatre of
Western Springs, 4384 Hampton Ave., Western Springs.
Linguist professor Henry Higgins meets gentleman Colonel Pickering, and they make a
whimsical bet to pass off Eliza, a low-class street flower girl, as a respectable royal lady
of high society. Colonel Pickering offers to cover the expenses of the experiment if
Higgins can pass Eliza off as a duchess at a garden party six months later.
Eliza undergoes grueling training. When she successfully “passes” in high society,
having in the process become a lovely young woman of sensitivity and taste, Higgins
dismisses her abruptly as a successfully completed experiment. Eliza now belongs
neither to the upper class, whose mannerisms and speech she has learned, nor to the
lower class from which she came.
Shaw wrote the part of Eliza expressly for Mrs. Patrick Campbell who played opposite
Herbert Beerbohm Tree as Henry Higgins. It opened at His Majesty’s Theatre in the
West End in April 1914. Shaw directed the actors through tempestuous rehearsals often
punctuated by at least one of the two storming out of the theatre in a rage.
It became famous as the stage musical “My Fair Lady” with Rex Harrison and Julie
Andrews. The musical score is by Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe. The 1964 film
starred Rex Harrison and Audrey Hepburn.
Tickets are $28 for all performances; $15 for students aged 18 and under. Call the box
office at 708-246-3380 and/or visit the website at: www.theatrewesternsprings.com .
