From Artisan Client: "It’s worth noting for us long time Merry Edwards’ fans that her 1977 Matanzas Creek Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon blend is unforgettable. Absolutely stunning wine. Her history certainly precedes the founding of her own winery.

One of California's first woman winemakers, Merry Edwards began her career at Mount Eden Vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountains in 1974. She went on to become the founding winemaker at Matanzas Creek in 1977 and remained there until 1984."

Dear Artisans,

We're excited to bring you a new set of white wines from Sonoma cult producer Merry Edwards. Merry Edwards Winery was founded in 1997 and has produced critically acclaimed terroir-driven Pinot Noirs using site-specific viticulture in the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast appellations ever since. Over two decades, Merry assembled a stellar collection of vineyards and with her meticulous attention to detail crafted Pinot Noirs of immense depth, elegant structure and exceptional longevity. In addition, her fragrant, barrel-aged Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc is among the most sought after made in California. A single-vineyard Chardonnay from the venerable Olivet Lane Vineyard rounds out the wines.

Now a Certified California Sustainable Winery, the brand entered a new chapter after Merry’s retirement in 2020. Merry’s handpicked successor, Winemaker Heidi von der Mehden, a tried and true Sonoman winemaker, having previously worked at Kenwood Vineyards, Mauritson Winery, and Arrowood Winery, and Winery President Nicole Carter (no slouch herself as she has certifications from the Master Court of Sommeliers as well as Britain's Wine & Spirits Education Trust and the Culinary Institute of America Wine School in Napa Valley) have taken up exactly where Merry left off and continue to make wines treasured by legions of Merry Edwards’ fans - as you can see from the reviews below!

2022 Merry Edwards Sauvignon Blanc

Russian River Valley

95 Points - Wine Spectator:

"A stunning white, this leaps out of the glass with aromatic mango, orange blossom and salted ripe melon flavors. Gains complexity from grilled peach, lemon oil, savory litsea oil and toasted herb elements, with a fleshy, creamy texture and fresh acidity. Drink now through 2029." - MaryAnn Worobiec (Apr 2024)

94 Points - Decanter:

"Super expressive nose of white peach lemongrass, orange blossoms and vanillin. Terrifically rich from lees ageing, with supple fruit redolent of citrus, pear, and yellow apple. Intensely mineral-driven on the medium to full-bodied finish, with chalky crushed stones framed by racy acidity, which resolves through fresh floral and honeysuckle notes. Quite delicious. Whole-cluster pressed, barrel fermented and aged sur lie in 19% new French oak for five months." - Jonathan Cristaldi (Jan 2024)

94 Points - Tasting Panel:

Barrel fermented and aged sur lie for five months in (18% new) French oak, the wine glistens with Meyer lemon and honeydew. Pineapple, gardenia, and sweet basil line the palate, lending a zingy profile to a finish of salty minerality."

92 Points - Wine Spectator:

"Packs ripe, fleshy mango, peach and dried apricot flavors that show terrific focus and persistence, with details of pear, lemon zest, candied ginger and lemongrass. Shows impressive focus on the long finish, with a fresh thread of acidity that keeps the flavors lively and mouthwatering. Drink now. 10,780 cases made." - MaryAnn Worobiec (Oct 2023)

92 Points - Decanter:

"Pronounced aromatics of lychee and kiwi are intermixed with jasmine and orange blossoms. Sur lie ageing for four months in 18% new French oak with batonnage twice weekly lends a creamy mid-palate richness and weight balanced by refreshing acidity." - Jonathan Cristaldi (Mar 2023)
