2019 Paolo Scavino
Barolo DOCG
95 Points - James Suckling:
"The fresh flowers, like roses, really come through here. Perfumed. Sliced strawberry and citrus. Full-bodied with linear and tight tannins. Bright acidity gives it drive and focus. Give it four or five years to soften and come together." (Jun 2023)
93 Points, #78 Top 100 of 2023 - Wine Spectator:
"A supple, vibrant Barolo, with fine depth to the cherry, raspberry and floral aromas and flavors. Solidly built, with refined tannins and a long, juicy aftertaste. Reveals earth, iron and tobacco accents that linger. Best from 2026 through 2042."
92 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
92 Points - Robert Parker's WA
Elsewhere: $60.00
Ours: $49.97

2019 Giuseppe Cortese
Barbaresco DOCG
94 Points, #39 Top 100 of 2023 - Wine Spectator:
"A pretty red, this boasts strawberry, cherry, raspberry and rose aromas and flavors aligned to an elegant profile. Firm and intense, with a long, detailed aftertaste of fruit, rosemary and mineral accents. Best from 2025 through 2042. 850 boxes made, 500 boxes imported."
94 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
Fragrant purple flower, red berry and wild herb aromas mingle in the glass together with a whiff of camphor. Tightly wound and linear, the youthfully austere palate shows crushed raspberry, Marasca cherry and star anise framed in taut, tightly knit tannins and bright acidity. Drink through 2031. Kerin O’Keefe
Elsewhere: $50.00
Ours: $44.97

Wine Enthusiast:
"This Barbera is vibrant and lifted on the nose with expressive aromas of ripe blueberries, tart cherries and violets. The palate is plush and rich with flavors of cherry and raspberry preserves. The wine finishes with slight herbal notes and lively acidity." - JP (Mar 2023)

2019 Michele Chiarlo Cipressi Nizza Barbera d'Asti Superiore DOCG

92 Points, #54 Top 100 of 2023 - Wine Spectator:

90 Points - Robert Parker's WA
Elsewhere: $30.00
Ours: $21.97

#1: Paolo Scavino Barolo 2019 - The Paolo Scavino winery was founded in 1921 by Enrico Scavino's father Paolo. Today Enrico runs the winery with the help of his daughters Enrica and Elisa. The winery is located in Castiglione Falletto, one of the eleven communes of the Barolo appellation, in the historical Langhe hills. The Scavino winery is rare in their possession of grand crus in six of the eleven villages of Barolo. The Scavino family owns grand cru vineyards in the townships of Castiglione Falletto, Barolo, La Morra, Roddi, Verduno and Serralunga. This diversity of terroir gives the Scavinos a unique opportunity to produce wines of extraordinary quality. .
#2: Giuseppe Cortese Barbaresco 2019 - Rabajà is one of Italy’s crown jewel vineyards, and the price of entry is usually steep: Produttori del Barbaresco’s “humble” example is $80, and Giacosa’s bottling will blow a $250-sized hole in your wallet. But Giuseppe Cortese’s 2019 Barbaresco, made from the same famed site in a landmark vintage, was awarded 95 points and Editors’ Choice honors by Wine Enthusiast’s Kerin O’Keefe—who literally wrote the definitive book on Barolo and Barbaresco. It’s one of the easiest buys you’ll find in Italian wine. Unfortunately, we have only 6 bottles—hurry!
#3: Pico Maccario Lavignone Barbera d'Asti 2021 - Pico Maccario is a Barbera specialist located in the town of Mombaruzzo in the heart of Piedmont’s Barbera d’Asti DOCG. Brothers Pico and Vitaliano created the Pico Maccario brand in 1997 following four generations of selling the family grapes to other producers. Lavignone takes its name from one of the 18th-century farmhouses located on the property. It is the most important wine of the Pico Maccario winery and should be considered as a classic example of Barbera d’Asti.
#4: Michele Chiarlo Cipressi Nizza Barbera d'Asti Superiore 2019 - Since 1956, Michele Chiarlo has been vinifying the essence of Piedmont, cultivating 110 hectares of the best crus between the Langhe, Monferrato, and Gavi. Cipressi gets its name from the cipressi or cypress trees atop one of the hillsides of the estate. The location Nizza was previously part of Barbera d'Asti DOCG; it was elevated to its own DOCG status in 2014.
