I hope this update find you well. As we move forward into another year of challenges and opportunities, I am filled with a deep sense of gratitude for each and every one of you who contributes to the Wisconsin Real Estate Program. Markets fluctuate; deals come and go; but our commitment to the UW and WREAA remains constant.

Wisconsin Real Estate Trends Conference:
Revitalizing Urban Spaces
Cultivating Vibrant Cities for Tomorrow

| | Slated for September 12-13, 2024, the Wisconsin Real Estate Trends Conference will take place in Chicago, Illinois. A Welcome networking reception will kick off the conference on Thursday, September 12 at the Prudential Plaza terrace. The program continues Friday morning, September 13 at the Willis Tower location of Convene. This year's conference program is chaired by UWRE alums and WREAA Board Members, Chad Messer of Sagard and Mitesh Patel of Northwestern Mutual Investment Management Company. The agenda includes keynote talks from Dr. Richard Florida, Founder of the Creative Class Group and Co-Founder of City Lab and author of The New Urban Crisis and The Rise of the Creative Class; and from Emi Adachi, Managing Director, and Co-Head of Global Investment Research at Heitman, who will provide a Market Update and share insights on Heitman’s approach to market analysis. Panel topics will feature inclusionary zoning, redeveloping obsolete real estate into industrial and big tech’s role in real estate. A series of small-group industry forums will be offered to provide attendees with a unique opportunity for sharing and networking. Registration will open in early June.

Zach Zanolli (MBA 2015)

Zach Zanolli (MBA 2015) is a Managing Director at Longpoint, responsible for investments in the Western region.
Prior to joining Longpoint, Zach was a Director at Equity Group Investments (EGI), the private investment firm of Sam Zell. While at EGI, he sourced and evaluated new investment opportunities and managed the company’s diverse portfolio of real estate assets. He also served on the boards of Cross Border Xpress, a bi-national airport terminal that connects San Diego directly to the Tijuana Airport, S.A.L. Real Estate, an international investment and management company, and LPC Conservation LLC, a land conservation bank.

Claudia Harkins (MS 2021)
Associate Market Director
Western Wisconsin
Claudia Harkins is the Vice President of Development at Cascade Development located in Madison, WI. Cascade Development is a fully integrated real estate development firm focused on multifamily and hospitality around Dane County.
Prior to her role at Cascade Development, Claudia worked at the Teacher Retirement System of Texas as a Real Estate Investment Analyst starting in 2021. The Teacher Retirement System of Texas is a state pension fund that manages ~$30 billion of real estate assets, across the risk spectrum. While there, Claudia underwrote both fund and direct investments spanning property type, geography, risk profile, structure, and strategy.

The 2024 recipients are highlighted on the WREAA Network Blog. At-Large Recent Graduate Director

The WREAA Board of Directors has launched the nomination process to fill the position of At-Large Director, Recent Graduate. The position plays a vital leadership role in the governance of the WREAA and represents the perspective and interests of recent graduates of the UWRE Program, to the Board. Candidates for the role should have graduated within the last 2 to 3 years from the UWRE Program and should be active WREAA members involved in their local region. To learn more about the position and submit a nomination or an application, visit the WREAA website. Nominations or applications should be submitted by May 10 by email to WREAA.

Beyond the Blueprint: WREAA Alumni Explore the
Madison Yards Development

Alumni and guests gathered in Madison to tour the EO Madison Yards apartments and the SWIB Office Building, located Madison Yards, a 21 acre, mixed-used development. Mark Theder, President of Summit Smith Development, gave the tour which was followed by a networking happy hour on the rooftop. Thank you to Senior Market Director, Christian Caulum (BBA 1997), and Associate Market Director, Claudia Harkins (MS 2021) for arranging the event!

Denver Area Alumni Enjoy a Day on the Slopes | |
Denver area Badgers and friends enjoyed a day of skiing through beautiful mountain scenery at Loveland Ski Area. Following a morning on the slopes, Denver Senior Market Director, Tim Slater (BBA 2013) and Associate Market Director Kyle Nickel (BBA 2019) hosted a Wisconsin tailgate lunch with brats, burgers and beer. It was a perfect combination of fun, food, and networking against the stunning backdrop of the mountains. Many thanks to Tim and Kyle for organizing the event!

WREAA Members Dive into Minneapolis Redevelopment | |
WREAA members and guests were treated to a tour of the Burlap Lofts, a property redevelopment in Northeast Minneapolis. Burlap Lofts is a 50,000-square-foot boutique office and retail destination in the East Bank/Nicollet Island neighborhood. The tour was led by Chad Tepley (BBA 2002), President of CDT Realty Corporation. Attendees enjoyed a networking Happy Hour at Zhora Darling following the tour. Special thanks to WREAA Minnesota Associate Market Director Liz Curley (BBA 2017) for setting up this event.

DC Area: Badger BBall Broadcast & Bowling Bonanza | |
Alumni and friends in the D.C. area met at the Bowlero Bethesda to cheer on the Badgers' Men's Basketball team and enjoy an evening of bowling. Many thanks to Luke Koczela, WREAA Senior Market Director for Washington, DC for coordinating the event.
