From Shared History to Shared Success: Alumni Collaboration Fuels Donation to Badger Deal Fund | Pictured from left to right: Howard Green (Meridian Design Build), Eric Tresslar (NAI Hiffman), Steve Connolly (NAI Hiffman), Jason Katseff (Amstar), Tim Slater (Amstar), Drew Bulson (Ketone Partners), Matt Karp (Amstar), Joe Zutkis (Meridian Design Build), Jennifer Heaney (Ketone Partners), Kathleen Colias (Ketone Partners), Kyle Schuhmacher (Ketone Partners). Not pictured: Nick Howard (Wintrust Financial).

The Badger Deal Fund received donations from four WREAA members, Tim Slater (BBA 2013), Amstar, Nick Howard (BBA 1996), Wintrust Commercial Real Estate, Kyle Schuhmacher (BBA 2000), Ketone Partners, and Jennifer (Wagner) Heaney (BBA 2004), also of Ketone Partners, to commemorate a 2022 deal. Ketone Partners and Amstar formed a joint venture to develop a 57,600 square foot industrial truck maintenance building with 621 trailer parking stalls. The project is located in Joliet, Illinois adjacent to the new Houbolt Road extension. Construction is underway and is expected to be completed in Fall 2023. Financing was provided by Wintrust Financial.
The parties in this deal have a significant shared history that spans almost two decades. Jennifer Heaney's hiring from the UW real estate program in 2004, orchestrated by Kyle Schuhmacher, marks the beginning of their professional relationship. They have worked together for twelve of the last eighteen years.
Additionally, Nick Howard has been a long-standing partner of Kyle and Jennifer since 2004, providing financing for their various development projects.
Interestingly, the development of the relationship between Ketone and Amstar was fostered through the WREAA Student Mentorship program. Kyle served as Tim Slater's mentor, and the two remained close even after Tim's graduation, culminating in the creation of this joint venture.
A generous donation was provided in the name of this deal that will provide for the next generation of real estate leaders through financial support as well as fostering innovation and progress.

WREAA Launches Mentorship Program to Guide UW-Madison Real Estate Students
|
The WREAA is excited to be launching the Student Mentorship Program for the 2023-24 academic year! The program was developed in collaboration with the UW-Madison Real Estate Program with the goal of helping to establish a partnership between an alumnus and a current UW Madison Real Estate student. Students typically discuss careers, professional options, and other issues that they may encounter with their mentors. Alumni mentors serve as friend or advisor to the student.
With over 700 Graduate and Undergraduate Real Estate students enrolled for the 2023-2024 school year, WREAA is currently recruiting alumni to serve as student mentors. Student mentors should have 3+ years of industry experience and be willing to commit to regular meetings with one student between September 2023 and May 2024. Please visit our website to learn more about the WREAA Student Mentorship Program, then contact Mandy Kaegy to volunteer as mentor.
