April Highlights for Missions
Appalachia Service Project (ASP)
We are scheduled for a trip to Jonesville Va. starting April 24th and returning on April 28th.
HELP (Hands Engaged in Local Projects)
Coordinated a water outage for the church campus so that we could repair leaking valves in the men’s restroom adjacent to the sanctuary lobby area (both valves are fully functional now)
- During the time the campus was in the water outage, we turned power off in the sanctuary to replace a 150 Amp 3 phase breaker in the main panel.
- Assisted with the spreading of mulch in the area adjacent to Ralph drive.
- Disassembled one of the convection ovens in the CLC kitchen, did a repair to the motor and returned the oven back to service (now both ovens are fully functional)
- Removed the remaining “stuff” in the storage pod so it can be turned back in. The “stuff” is temporarily stored in various locations in the CLC.
- Installed 3 light fixtures in a widow's home (church member)
Installed 50 Led light fixtures in the downstairs CLC class rooms (125 additional fixture replacements are on back order, they will be used to complete the fluorescent to LED conversion in the CLC once receive
International Work Teams
Haiti
The Mountains of Hope for Haiti recently received funds from White Plains UMC. These funds were sent to the Farmers Association of Furcy, Haiti, and were used to purchase fertilizer and seed for the spring. There has been lots of civil unrest in Haiti lately particularly in the capitol city as 80% is controlled by gangs. A recent post on Facebook noted: "Please Pray for Haiti"!
Kairos Prison Ministry
Most Recent was March 6-9, and plans are for one more visit this year.
Seeds/Harvest of Love (Tutoring)
This mission continues to go well. Tutoring is held on Tues/Thurs. On Jan 8, tutoring was moved back to White Plains. Snacks are provided each week because the kids are coming straight to tutoring from school. Each student is helped with Homework.
