Webinar: HPV Vaccine Starts at 9

The Department of Health is hosting the HPV Vaccine Starts at 9: Why? How? Now! Cancer Prevention Made Easy webinar on May 16, 2023, from 12-1pm to discuss. The presenters will discuss the Washington State Department of Health’s recommendation to administer HPV vaccination starting at age 9, the importance and benefits of HPV vaccination, and clinic strategies to support the implementation of HPV vaccination at age 9. The webinar will be recorded and continuing education is available for nurses, medical assistants, and pharmacists/pharmacy techs. We are working to obtain continuing education for physicians.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe HPV, HPV-related cancers, and HPV vaccination rates in WA and in the US
  2. Identify at least 3 benefits of starting HPV vaccination at age 9
  3. Discuss clinic strategies to support workflows for HPV vaccination starting at age 9

Rules Hearing Announcement for Opioid Prescribing Exclusions

The Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery officially filed a CR-102 with the Office of the Code Reviser on April 18, 2023. The WSR # is 23-09-063.

The board is proposing amendments to expand the types of patients who are exempt from opioid prescribing rules.

The proposed language aligns with the Washington Medical Commission's recently adopted rules to ensure consistency and alignment with best practices.

Comments may be sent to the department’s Rules Comment Web Site by May 26, 2023, at:  https://fortress.wa.gov/doh/policyreview/. 

Comments may also be provided at the hearing. The hearing will be recorded for record-keeping purposes.
