Andre Daugherty | Owner of Pro.16 Productions

Andre has been a storyteller with our regional communications efforts since early in the pandemic. He’s worked with our WNC Health Communications Collaborative members to collect dozens of stories from trusted local messengers on the topics of COVID-19 prevention and vaccination, mental health, substance use, and healthy eating/ active living. Get to know Andre a little better with us in this mini Q&A:

Q: Tell us a little bit about you.

A: It is a privilege to be a storyteller and one that I take very seriously. I enjoy collaborating with my clients to present their business in a whole new light for the world to see - for them to be the hero of their own story. I love the outdoors, all things photography, family, and growing to be better every day.

Q: What is your favorite part of your job?

A: My favorite part of the job is the look on the faces of my clients when they see their vision come to fruition. I help them another step on their journey toward their goals.

Q: What kinds of projects have you worked on with WNC Health Network?

A: Video projects for various special interest campaigns.

Q: What do you enjoy or appreciate about working with WNC Health Network and our partners/clients?

A: The staff is amazing, helpful, and visionary which is sorely needed in our community.

Q: Do you have a favorite memory or story you'd like to share about your work with WNCHN?

Social Determinants of Health: Impact Health and the Healthy Opportunities Pilot

The roots of our health are entangled in our everyday environment. Including factors such as our living environments, relationships, food, income, education, or communities, the non-medical domains that impact our health and wellbeing are called the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH). As public health workers look ‘upstream’ for ways to improve the health and wellbeing of our communities, addressing the SDOH is both effective and cheaper than ‘downstream’ health impacts like chronic illnesses.

In North Carolina, public health workers identified a waiver that allows Medicaid funding to be directed towards SDOH programs. Currently manifesting across 3 regions of N.C., the Healthy Opportunities Pilots (HOP) is building organizational capacity, like funding for staff, for human service organizations that address the SDOH. To learn more about this innovative pilot, HPI Podcast host, Andrew Rainey, spoke with Dionne Greenlee-Jones, the HOP Senior Director of Innovation and Equity Development based in the WNC pilot, Impact Health. Recorded on November 1st of 2023, many of the data figures in the show have since increased!
