Family Appreciation Week

Each year on this week, we take time to thank WMS families. It is our pleasure to have your families at WMS. We look forward to seeing you each day, checking in and catching up. As a teacher and head of school, meeting and getting to know families continues to be one of my greatest pleasures. The opportunity to get to know you, your extended family and sometimes even family friends helps us learn more about each other.

Thank you for sharing your children with us. We appreciate your hard work on behalf of WMS, your involvement in the family co-op program, your smiles and "hellos" as we pass in the hallways and your feedback as we work to continually grow and improve. Founded by a group of families who wanted something more for their children’s education, we continue on that journey together as we move into WMS’ 61st year.

NEWS & NOTES

Re-enrollment Deadline - Tomorrow!

Have you secured your child's spot for next fall?

Thank you to everyone who has already submitted your 2024-25 re-enrollment forms! We look forward to welcoming your family back to WMS next fall!  Your prompt re-enrollment helps us plan for next school year, including offering contracts to teachers in a timely manner.

If you need assistance with or have questions about re-enrollment, please contact the WMS Admissions office at admissions@wmsde.org or the Business Office at businessoffice@wmsde.org.  We are projecting waitlists at some levels for the 2024-25 school year as well. To ensure your child’s placement for next year, it is important that we receive your re-enrollment contract and non-refundable/non-transferable deposit by the Thursday, February 15, 2023 re-enrollment deadline (tomorrow!). After Thursday, February 15, 2024, remaining spaces in our programs will be available to our waiting list of new applicants.

We value your family and plan for your re-enrollment. However, if you are choosing not to re-enroll, we ask that you notify admissions@wmsde.org as soon as possible (or open your child's re-enrollment link and click "Will not enroll") in order to inform our planning for next year.

The Board of Directors, teachers and staff are committed to the families and students at WMS and to making 2024-25 another great school year with your family. Thank you for your trust in and commitment to WMS.

WMS Welcomes Beatrice Lintner (WMS '11) as Artist in Residence

Wilmington Montessori School is thrilled to introduce our upcoming artist in residence, portrait artist Beatrice Lintner.

Starting next Wednesday and continuing through February 27, students in kindergarten through middle school will work with Beatrice to paint their own self-portraits. Beatrice, who graduated from WMS in 2011, is now a renowned painter based in Vermont, specializing in expressive contemporary portraiture. A 2021 graduate of Barnard College, Beatrice's academic studies in psychology fostered a profound understanding of the depth and intricacy of people's interior worlds, fueling her passion for portraiture. Her artwork is currently on display at Edgewater Gallery in Middlebury, VT, with an upcoming solo exhibition at The Vaults in Burlington, VT this spring.

Beyond her talent for human portraiture, Beatrice's creativity spans into other artistic realms including a thriving pet portrait business, performing as a cellist with a Vermont orchestra, and exploring digital and fiber arts, crochet and ceramics. In addition, Beatrice's talents as a writer and presenter were showcased when she spoke at the WMS class of 2022 graduation ceremony. Click here to watch her speech.

We look forward to unveiling our students' portraits within the halls of WMS, celebrating their creativity and artistic growth under Beatrice's supportive guidance.

A Message from Nurse Dana

Dear Families,

As we spend more time indoors throughout the winter, we are unfortunately in the season of colds, respiratory viruses and other illnesses. As we strive to provide a safe environment for learning and student growth, we ask that if your child is exhibiting symptoms of illness beyond those of the common cold, please keep them home. Your child can return to school after 24 hours if:

  • Fever is less than 100.4°F without fever-reducing medications.
  • Contagious symptoms (including vomiting and diarrhea) have stopped.
  • Antibiotics (if applicable) have been started.

If you have any questions please contact me at nurse@wmsde.org or call (302) 475-0555. Thank you for working with us to help keep our community healthy!

Best,

Dana Dougherty, BSN, RN

School Nurse
