NEW Elder Justice Resource Guides

Available in Six Languages

This June marked Elder Abuse Awareness Month - a time to get the word out about the serious issue of elder abuse and neglect. The National Council on Aging reports that one in 10 Americans aged 60+ have experienced some form of elder abuse, whether that be physical, sexual, emotional, financial, or neglect - with a fraction of those cases of abuse ever reported to the authorities.

To help spread the word about how individuals can protect themselves and their loved ones from abuse, WISE refreshed and launched our new Elder Justice Resource Guides. Available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Korean and Armenian (with more languages to come), the guides are a go-to resource for information on how to recognize the signs of elder abuse; to know when, where and how to report it; and to get tips on what to do and not to do to protect yourself - and your loved one - from abuse.

As part of this launch, WISE also rolled out our Elder Justice League, a cast of six older adult superheroes, to help us spread the word through social media and ads in the Los Angeles Times promoting our new "Guides".

To get a free Elder Justice Guide, simply call us at 310-394-9871. The Guide can also be downloaded online.

T-shirts featuring our Elder Justice League superheroes are also available for a donation to WISE of $100 or more. If you'd like to purchase an Elder Justice T-shirt, call us at 310-394-9871.

WISE Now Offers Enhanced Care Management!

We are excited to offer Enhanced Care Management (ECM) to eligible members aged 60+ enrolled in a Medi-Cal managed care health plan through L.A. Care or Health Net. These services are free and offer members an extra layer of support to get the care they need.

At WISE our Care Managers help connect older adults to services that help them maintain their independence at home for as long as possible. But with our new ECM program, eligible members can get additional services such as help to find doctors and schedule appointments, follow up services after a hospitalization - and more.

We'd like to give a big shout out to our dedicated Adult Day Center staff and volunteers for all they do every day to take such great care of the older adults with memory loss that we serve. Our clients are seniors with dementia, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, or those with conditions that require the assistance of others. Our Adult Day Center also allows caregivers to work, tend to other tasks, or to take a much needed break.
