With mental illness, the fight never ends. The fight always changes.

Sometimes we are required to be forceful and demonstrative in getting the proper care for our loved ones, who sometimes do not even know what they need. Sometimes we have to be quiet and listen and take a more passive, but attentive role in their lives.

It is a constant balancing act that can be thrown off at a moments notice. I believe it is impossible to maintain this required vigilance if we do not take good care of ourselves and consistently check in on our own well being. Obviously, God believes we are capable of this role we have been given and He will sustain us in that role, but we must ask and act.

Attending a support group is one form of action. We need each other.  I know the reason why I lead this group is for selfish reasons. I need the support to get up and carry on. Honestly, sometimes I think why bother? Does this do anything to make things different? My answer seems to be "yes, even if in a very small way". If only one person that attends the group feels a little bit lighter in their journey, that is worth it in God's economy.

So, with that being realized, we will be in room 310 every other Monday with a fresh box of tissue and a listening ear. Following the example of Jesus who took a few fish and some bread chunks and fed 5,000.  Nothing is impossible...

The group meets on alternating Mondays from 7:00 - 8:30 pm in room 310.  To view the next scheduled meetings click here.

lil' Gary's Legacy 2014 Annual Report

Our ministry participated with a resource table at the following Orange County Events.

  • NAMI Walk (National Alliance on Mental Illness)
  • AFSP - Out of the Darkness Walk
  • International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day
  • Suicide Prevention Awareness Conference

At these events and individually we distributed approximately 100 condolence and mental health packets filled with valuable resources and HOPE!

Countless individuals receive help through our website and facebook page. We know of one young man who chose not to end his life after visiting lil' Gary's facebook page.  He said "Gary saved me today and re-established my faith cause I was falling.... I LOVE HIM... THANK YOU!"

Below is an excerpt from an encouraging e-mail we received from a supporter.

What amazing people and incredible stories and how needed this ministry and calling is. As a mother, I just sobbed.  As a Christian and human being living in a world that is so far from God, I praised Him for the victories I could see through all the pain.  I hardly have words, but I wanted to reach out to you and thank you for allowing us to contribute in very small part to this cause.  What  privilege!  I pray that God provides for your ministry and Gary's legacy, and that lives will be saved, and souls will be won for Christ!

"But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope.  The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness!"
