COLLABORATION

From Independence To Interdependence

“The man who is isolated, who is unable to share in the benefits of political association or has no need to share because he is already self-sufficient, is no part of the polis, and must therefore be either a beast or a god.”

— Aristotle

By Andrew Martin, WE in the World

The wildebeast migration exemplifies how interconnected species and ecosystems are in nature. Each participant in the migration plays a crucial role, demonstrating the intricate web of relationships that sustain biodiversity and ecosystem resilience in East Africa's savannas. This can serve as a powerful reminder for humans of our interconnectedness with nature and the importance of responsible stewardship of the environment. It encourages us to learn from natural processes and apply those lessons to create a more sustainable and harmonious relationship between humans and the natural world.

“I hope each of us to become founders of a new America—one that creates the conditions for everyone to thrive together and to realize who we can be to one another. We don’t need to be in a Constitutional Convention to do that. We need to build bridges within our communities, with the people we know…I can’t help but hope that someday, we will choose to also celebrate an Inter-dependence day. One which celebrates who we are to one another, which invites us to be in relationship, to hear each other’s stories and truths, to acknowledge, to restore, and to strengthen our personal and civic bonds and our shared dream of an America for everyone.”

Want to truly succeed? Lift others up while you climb

It's up to all of us to create a more inclusive and diverse workplace. No matter where you are in your career journey, it's essential that you help others grow, even as you are growing yourself, says ACLU Chief Equity Officer Amber Hikes. She lays out three ways we can help each other succeed -- and empower and advance those who historically have been left behind.

The Way We Work is a TED original video series where leaders and thinkers offer practical wisdom and insight into how we can adapt and thrive amid changing workplace conventions.

Thousands of people around the world live 'off-the-grid'. See how this community does it

Driven by concerns about personal environmental impact, many of us might try to live more sustainably. But some people take it a step further - aiming to become self-sufficient by going ‘off-the-grid,’ and living communally. First emerging in the 1940s then popularized in the 1960s by the hippy movement, commune living is on the rise. CNN went to one such intentional community in Wales, UK, to find out what it’s like.
